“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em.”
Film is one of the means of entertainment, information and education which has become a force to reckon with.
In our clime, since the dawn of the film industry known as Nollywood, we have seen very creative and talented individuals who cut across all aspects of the industry from actors, directors, producers to mention but a few.
Moreso, our films have been premiered in film festivals globally and this is a clear indication that the stakeholders are not resting on their oars. One of such producers is…….
My name is Uduakobong Patrick. A graduate of Theatre Arts and Mass Communication from the University of Benin. I started as a protégé of prolific film producer Emem Isong Misodi.
Emem Isong is a Nigerian screen writer, film producer and director, who has won several awards and nominations in the movie industry.
She gave me the foundation knowledge of film industry. My time with her was awesome. The journey is not a 100 meter dash but a marathon. And I’m taking it one lap a time.
The concept of just not married is very simple.
I’m one who seeks out the most unique things to be a part of. So when Judith asked that we partner to make a film I immediately jumped on that.
Just not married is a story about young people who in the bid to get themselves out of their poverty came up with the brilliant idea to steal cars and decorate it like a just married car, dress up like a newly married couple as their get away plan.
The acceptance of the movie has been overwhelming.
When we opened in the cinemas in Nigeria, there was a lot of skepticism about the film, first it had no star power to draw people to watch it, but our first audience had such a fantastic time watching it and the word of mouth recommendations never stopped.
It was the same experience we had when we had our international premiere at Toronto International Film Festival 2016.
The audience so enjoyed our small film. And they never stopped talking about it.
Plans for the future is quite simple, make more films and collaborate more with like minds.
Words for the upcoming actors and actresses
For those who want to make this a career. Be sure that this is what you want to do, because it will require a lot of blood sweat and tears.
You will sacrifice a lot. It has taken me about six years to where I am now and I still have a long way to go.
Never be in a hurry to climb to the top. You are not super man. Keep your ambition simple and achievable. As you grow, your ambition will grow naturally.
Out of the eight films promoted at the Toronto film festival, just not married was amongst them.
The exploit of Patrick UduakObong in the movie industry really attests to Malvalio’s words in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, 1602: “In my stars I am above thee: but be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em.”
UduakObong Patrick was a dreamer and still dreaming, but one thing that makes him such a great dreamer is his quest to bring to reality his dreams.
Keep dreaming, and keep achieving them!
