Timaya: From plantain seller to Telecom Ambassador

One of the most successful music artiste ever to emerge from the south South region of Nigeria is Inetimi Alfred Odon aka Timaya.

He began his journey to limelight in the music industry with songs like Dem mama, Ogologo ma and a host of nice songs, since then his career has been on the rise with hit singles and mind blowing albums.

Though not born with a silver spoon from a family of fifteen children and as a kid he used to hawk plantain in his neighbourhood in Rivers state.

All these did not hinder him from being an A-list music artiste as some of the challenges he went through are brought to bare in the lyrics of some of his songs.

The Egberi Papa 1 of Baylesa which means the mouth piece of the people ironically hails from Rivers state.

He remains as one of the artistes whose songs are appealing to both the gospel and secular music lovers. On the aspect of gospel inclined songs we have Ogologo ma Jehovah, bow down, a collabo with the late gospel icon Keffi titled kokoroko, Alleluya to mention but a few.

Most of his songs are danceable and some music lovers have tagged him the Dancehall King of the industry as he also brought to limelight one of the raves of the moment Patoranking whose rise in the industry is unequalled.

With wonderful collaborations with artistes within an outside the country like Sean Paul in the shake your bum bum remix, tuface, two shots, vector, Keffi, Flavour to mention but a few, he has become a force to reckon within and outside the continent.

Recently a feather was added to his cap, as Telecommunications giant Globacom signed him as one of its new Ambassadors  with artistes like Olamide. More power to your elbow and keep making Nigeria proud.
