This is a 50-minute N-power Facebook Live chat with Afolabi Imoukhuede

However, the first part addresses N-power 2016 batch taking 35 minutes of the conversation, while the second part addresses questions surrounding N-power 2017 batch.

Greetings from Mr. President and Vice President

Good evening great Nigerian youth, and fellow N-power volunteers, and how has it been with each and everyone of you in the last few weeks.

Let me apologise firstly for the change of schedule I ought to have had this session with you last week Thursday, but I had to reschedule due to other national assignments.

But it’s pleasure to be with you again today, let me also congratulate the Oyo N-power volunteers. It was a pleasure relating with all of you last week.

Let me also congratulate the Edo State N-power volunteers for relating with the Vice President when he visited Edo recently.

I want to bring to you special greetings from the President and the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, and his vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

As you know both of them are primarily proud of you all the time, and proud of what you have been doing.

How has it been with all of you: N-teach volunteers, N-Agro volunteers, N-tax volunteers, N-health volunteers.

What are the things that have been bothering you? And indeed and I have a few of them before me here tonight.

We are going to do it differently today, we have a poll of major concerns and issues that are on your mind.

N-power Facebook Live chat with Afolabi Imoukhuede (PART 1)

N-power volunteer 2016 batch (First Batch)

You are now the veteran of N-power, I”ll speak to the issue of backlogs. I think we’ve made a tremendous improvement in addressing your backlogs.

A lot of backlogs have been paid, while we still have a few of you yet to be paid your backlogs.

We’ve let you know the reasons why you’re still having issues with your backlogs.

We have the updated list of those of you having backlogs problem, as you provide the required documents, we’d work on that.

We still have like 600 of you who have not been paid for once since the programme started.

As you know we are doing our best to make sure that the issue is resolved once and for all.

Some of you can attest to this as our support must have reached you like making calls to try to get your BVN details and your name to match.

So please you must continue to cooperate with us, what is important is that you must have been going to your PPA.

If you’ve not been going to your PPA, I don’t think there is any head of PPA or focal person that would attest to you.

If you’ve not been going to your PPA there is no for you wanting to be paid.

My promise to you is that we would drive that number to 0. sometimes ago we’re talking of over 25,000, but now the number is a little bit over 600, we are really almost there.

N-power Facebook Live Chat with Afolabi Imoukhuede: Some of you are yet to collect your N-power devices:

For those who selected devices between batch one and batch two, I’ve told we have roughly 5,000 of you who are yet to pick up your devices across country.

If you know you selected N-power device between the batch 1 and 2 and you’ve gotten the SMS, please proceed to the nearest MTN branch office in your state to collect your device.

For those whose device is still hold, quickly e-mail us we’d attend to that. However, if you know your payment is on hold don’t even try to pick up your device.

We’d give you more time to address this, and if you are still unable to pick up your device we’d assume you are either not in the programme or you’re not interested in the programme.

The moment device selection for batch 2 closed, there are some of you whose payment at that time was on hold.

Issue with your N-power device

We have support email for those of you that have problem with your device, you can send your complaint to devicesupport@npvn.ng that’s our device support e-mail.

However, because there are about eight N-power devices provided by eight vendors.

What we’ve also done on your (NPVN) portal we have published support for each of the N-power devices.

I’ll always encourage you to go there if you have issue with your N-power device for instant support for Samsung Galaxy Tab E is provided on the portal so also other devices: their email, phone numbers and contact locations.

You can take your device to any of the vendor applicable to the device you collected because the vendors have promised to provide support for all the devices and warranty for the two-year duration for the programme.

If you have any other issue you can always use the devicesupport email.

Infobase has also compiled the list of support for all the N-power devices, find them below:

N-power Facebook Live Chat with Afolabi Imoukhuede: Stolen N-power device

Very unfortunate and I must empathize with you, but you must also be thankful that you are safe to report, some may not have been that lucky.

Unfortunately we do not have a replacement policy for stolen devices right now.

Some you approached me during our visit to Edo State. I could remember one you told me, “I’ve been disempowered”

I asked “What do you mean?

He said, “because my N-power device has been stolen”

I’m happy some you now know the importance of the N-power device components.

What I’d advise you is you really want to try and put some money together and get any other device which you purchase from any of the eight N-power device vendors.

Even if you can’t, you can another device.

Then try and send us an email we’d then arrange for the contents to be loaded for you on your new device.

That’s the best I think I can do for now.

N-power Facebook Live Chat with Afolabi Imoukhuede: What happens to N-power 2016 batch after the end of the programme?

We did promise employability enhancement. We belive you have learned a lot from the programme through the contents on your N-power device.

Most especially the N-agro, N-tax.

The point is N-power is a learning programme.

It’s a learn and volunteer programme so you apply what you learn in your other endevour.

You must begin to back backward how many months you have left so that you can prepare ahead.

I must commend you impact stories that have distilled through the country.

We’ve heard the success story of a young family in Ekiti and how N-power impacted their lives.

There are many many more of such stories around the country from those I have met personally.

We even have one of the N-power volunteers who is now an international advocates for Agro, and also working on Federal government project.

There are many of you who have taken this programme very seriously so that your 25th month is not worst than month zero. I applaud you.

I like you to always remember NYSC. And I have seen anyone who campaign that you must permanent me in NYSC. N-power just like NYSC has an expiration.

But what happen in NYSC is that when you get posted to an organisation where you want to continue to work, what do you do?

You put in your best and make effort to get them to retain you. And YES some of you get retained and some.

For those who don’t get retained you don’t get to carry placards.

That’s one thing I want us to bear in mind. However, we have listen and we’d continue to listen to your concerns around what must be done.

I did get your open letter to Mr. President a few days ago of which I was articulated.

Exit is something we take seriously my last chat with you is that we do have some exit mentions.

You could remember in one o my chats with you on passion for profit, and how you could turn that passion to form of creativity and how you could turn it to profit.

That for me, I will still encourage to keep exploring till you find entrepreneurial drive to continue in it.

There are some schools in Ondo who mentioned that the N-power Teach has been a big bailout for them.

There is a lot of gap in our institution and you are filling that gap now. What does it mean?

It means you could be considered for a permanent job by your PPA via the state government.

Since we have three arms of government: Federal, State, Local, but no one can force anyone, but there is a persuasive conversation that is going on to encourage the state government to employ you, and I know some states governments have started doing it.

I know of Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna are in the process of doing it. The state governments see value in the service you render.

We would continue to advance that conversation.

But please note that it can’t be a forced conversation. Just like in NYSC, you have to distinguish yourself.

Let me encourage those of you who have working, who have been given a great recommendation, I don’t think you have anything to fear. You should be confident in the experience you’ve gained, and even encourage you to explore beyond what you know now.

Don’t limit yourself to just the government institution, explore other private organisations in your area, and I’m sure there are lots of them who are ready to absorb credible and resourceful people.

N-power Facebook Live Chat with Afolabi Imoukhuede: Exploring contents on N-power devices

Let me also encourage you to explore the the learning materials you have in the device around CV writing, job interview, around searching for jobs.

Explore the content in your N-power device and explore the contents in your device, and your case we soon be like some of your colleagues who exited the programme because they have gotten a better job offer.

Please stay tuned to us as your exit is very germane to us. But continue to put in your best and you’d be delighted as some of the ideas would be unfolding in a few weeks.

N-power Facebook Live Chat with Afolabi Imoukhuede: Resigning from N-power job

For those who have gotten job. Firstly you can’t be in two places at the same time, we currently working with SUBEB chairs across the state to continue with monitoring exercise..

Please I encourage you to toe the path of honour and dignity: please resign so that you create opportunities for those who are yet to come in.

Let me remind that that the 2017 batch which I will speak to in a minute, we received 2.5 million applications, from which we only considered 300, 000, so please the more you toe the path pf honour and resign, it then gives us opportunity to consider more people to come in to fill those gaps.

We also encourage you to use our whistle blowing on our social media to expose any of your colleagues that you know is not going to work, but rather chosen to steal, and not earn. We assure you your identify would not be revealed.

When you do the work, you earn the stipend, when you don’t do the work, you steal, and you know the consequences of stealing.

Please report them.

As the long holiday is approaching for the N-power Teach, please don’t get into laxity of nothing can happen to me.

It’s an opportunity for you to have conversation among yourself and run a lot of community engagement programme with your fellow youths.

N-power Much More will be on to take your stories.

N-power Facebook Live Chat with Afolabi Imoukhuefe: Deployment and Payment of Stipend for the 2017 Batch
Ok yes! My brothers and sisters in the 2017 batch, firstly for again those of you who have been pre-selected let me congratulate you.

Like I had said earlier, we had 2.5 million applications and for you to have been pre-selected without having to know anyone. You know that one major feature of N-Power is that it is one platform that allows for pure transparency.

You need not know anyone in Abuja or your state or any part of Nigeria to get into N-Power, so for you not to have known anyone and were pre-selected I say congratulations. We are also aware, we are mindful that we have not engaged you, some of you know I have explained challenges to you in the past and I think the good news is the challenges is soon behind us.

You could almost begin to count down to days and we will make some announcements very very very soon. I think in the month of July there will be a definite announcement about your date of deployment however, what I want to encourage you for the time that you spent waiting is to please ensure that the time is utilized.

To ensure that from day 1, when we start to pay, we would be able to pay you. Why do I say that? we have on-boarded you since the month of May, on-boarded you onto the npvn platform, meaning that you’re able to learn.

I know we took a poll wanting to know what’s been the impact and I did read some very positive remarks, some of who already telling me about how the materials especially in teaching has changed your horizon and you’re really eager to now be able to apply what you are learning.

Please let that be the majority of you. If you have never gone to onboard yourself, we still have from the count that I have, we still have some roughly 18,000 to 20,000 of you that have not gone to onboard yourself at the portal, you know what that means.

The day the whistle blows to say start that means there are about 18 to 20,000 of you that we will not be paid. So what then would have been your benefit if you have waited this long and now the day the whistle blow we can’t pay you? What would you have gained? So please let me encourage you, you have been pre-selected, pre-selected means that you got an SMS or you checked on the NPVN platform using the log in protocol and you saw that you were pre-selected. Please ensure that you conclude your log in process that is number 1.

Number 2, in concluding your log in process ensure that you update your photo and your ID, a form of ID and number. 3, ensure that all your personal details are accurate, meaning your first name, your last name, your bank account, your bank name, your BVN, all the necessary personal details and your component whether you are teach, health or agro, cross-check and be sure that all of those details have been uploaded correctly.

If you have any challenge, this is the time to be able to make those complaints, there is, if you go into your portal in the npvn, you will notice there is an edit button, utilize that button, click on edit and then of course try and upload whatever it is or whatever changes you need to make. Moreover, please note, you may not be able to upload or change your bank account details, those are very sensitive details.

Now those are very sensitive details and also anti-fraud controls and we don’t want anyone who may have wrongfully gained access to your login details, now going there to change payment details to the point that someone else begins to collect your money when we start to pay.

We will not allow you to change your banking details, if there is any reason why you must change it for whatever reason, please send an email you won’t be able to do that like you’re able to re-arrange your first name and last name. Certain details won’t be able to change immediately but you can send us an email and we would take it up from there.

Please take a lot of lessons from your current N-Power volunteers let me then say, those of you who haven’t onboarded yourself perhaps if you’re one of my few friends that may want to be mischievous then perhaps its good to stay away. If you know you’re already gainfully employed and you just thought this was another money for the boys or free money, it is really not.

It is money for work done perhaps its good to stay off but the point we would give, there is a few more communication campaigns in the next few days we would give a few more days, perhaps a week or two to ensure that we can ramp up as much more of our successfully preselected onboard. If we do not see you onboarded then we would take it that you’re no longer interested and we may have to open up that slot for some other young Nigerians that are clearly in the waiting list.

If you had 2.5million applications and only 300,000 were selected, you can do the maths and tell us the amount of young Nigerians that are still waiting. Stay tuned to our social media channels and we would let you know in the month of July your final start date and deployment date. Having said that, I think I have addressed all your concerns broadly.

N-power Facebook Live Chat with Afolabi Imoukhuefe: General Comments

Let me then now be able to speak more generally to you and in speaking generally to you let me now start by that we, one of the concerns is that I want you to know I was saying a minute ago that we have a lot of social media channel.

Please stay tuned to our verified social media channels, one of it is the Facebook page that you’re watching or listening. There may be many other Facebook pages cause I know a lot of you in your state chapters, in your groups in your PPA’s you all have different Facebook channels, so please only pay attention to the news that originates from our own channels.

For you to be listening to this then that means you know the verified Facebook channels so please pay attention to that and that alone. The next thing is of course we have our other channels on Instagram, twitter, telegram and WhatsApp; Please ensure it is the one that is verified by N-Power.

The reason I say this is the world has changed; we are now in a world where fake news thrives. It is just not a Nigerian phenomenon, it is global. Please you need to be alert, more so we’re also approaching a season and time of governance in our governance life cycle. We’re approaching election period so please we want you to stay tuned to only verifiable information from our channels, anything that does not come from our channel you need not worry about it.

Do not release your information, your personal details to anybody except obviously you want to fall victim of any fraud we have not, we have never and we would not authorize the payment of any fees, any collection fee, and any duty fee for any reason.

This is a programme of the Mr President, President Muhammadu Buhari’s direct investment to you as a Nigerian youth to develop you, to enhance your capacity, your employability capacity, to enhance your entrepreneurship capacity and to also get you through this tool that has been available to you to learn.

Through this tool, there is a lot of learning opportunities though this device. A lot of you would soon be called on for several form of enumerations whether as a payment agent in rural communities as part of our conditional cash transfers or as enumeration agents for a GEEP beneficiaries in the various local government or as enumeration agents for our MSME in the various states.

There is a whole lot of privilege that you have in this program so please that is Mr. President investment in you. He has never asked you for a kobo for that and he won’t want to start now, so please desist and also report anyone who comes in any guise, whether in guise of political campaign or party or political donation.

Please desist from it, there cannot be any mandatory contribution of any sort from our office to you for any affiliation of any sort. Please that is a very clear message do not fall victim. You would get situations people would say we need your details, we need your personal details because some money would be paid to you, well again, like I have said to you don’t pay and don’t expect to receive.

Now if you on your own want to do anything , mobilize for your community service, mobilize for your community effort, I saw a group of you in Edo state that rebuilt the sign post for their place of primary assignment. That obviously was willful donation of yours, your contribution to do that for your community, I’ll not stop you, we won’t stop you from doing that, But please let no one under the guise of Abuja office or Abuja mandate deceive you.

Now what you also need to know, I have also said this is a direct investment of Mr President to you. I have seen and received a lot what you call willful and voluntary endorsement and support for both Mr. President and vice President.

You have not hidden it, in every state he goes you have your banners up and we’ll not distort your willful aggregation of any form of support for his declaration to re-contest but I want you to know that the days are coming for that but please stay focused on your work, stay focused on your role, stay tuned to our verifiable channels and when you do that I can assure you that you’ll stay safe and it is better safe than sorry.

My last point before I go is to also announce to you so you can announce and also help with a lot of colleagues who may have applied in 2016 for the non-graduate components, by non-graduate I’m always clear to specify that by non-graduate that your minimum requirements is your SSCE not a diploma or degree.

So that is what we mean for the non-graduate components comprising of the hardware technology, software technology, creative and also the non-graduate vocational training and apprenticeship which we call the N-Build particularly in the other 15 states that may not have been active in the first batch.

The physical verification is ongoing now, today should have been day 3 it started on Monday June 25 we are expected to roundup Friday June 29th. I have gotten quite a good report that many states have been up and doing in ensuring that the physical verification happens, however two things have come to my notice, 1.

A lot of you got SMS meaning that you got the messages saying you’ve been pre-selected so you need to visit your local government of residence. Let me clarify, it is not your local government of origin it is the local government where you said to us you live, if that is also your local government of origin it’s not a problem.

We are not saying you should travel to your local government of origin but your local government where you say you live. I have gotten a few feedbacks from you maybe not you listening to me but some of your friends and colleagues at home are saying we forgot the local government we used when we applied two years ago.

A few of you have gone to the local governments where you stay now and then discover your name is not on the list but ofcourse you got an SMS. The fact that you got an SMS, you applied and got pre-selected, If your name isn’t there please do go back there we would issue a directive for them now to still run a verification for you by the time the compilation is done we would compare with our record if truly you were preselected maybe in another local government which you do not know or you’re not sure.

So go to the local government you’re currently in, before you go tomorrow I would have sent a directive out for them to conduct verification for you and we would reconcile during our compilation stage.

Second thing is another fact that the turnout has been slower in some local government and in some states. Please ask your friends and colleagues, not that you all will bombard the social media and you all use to say that I seem to have forgotten you, now that we’ve remembered you I don’t want you to lose out on these opportunity.

Please let your people know that the physical verification for the non-graduate component the N-Power Knowledge, Software Knowledge, Hardware knowledge, N-Power Creative and the N-Power-Build, which is the vocational training apprenticeship, is ongoing right now the last Thursday and Friday, Lets avail ourselves of this opportunity.

I think I’ve talked on all that you have said to me that was important to you, so on that note let me encourage you to continue to be good ambassadors of the federal government of Nigeria. Continue to be good ambassadors of N-Power and good ambassadors of your homes.

I think that is also very important at any point in time I have no doubt in my mind in a few of the states I have been privileged to attend with the Vice President you’ve conducted yourself very orderly, very jovially and cheerfully I commend that about you. Please keep the flag flying, keep the light shinning, you can count on our support to you continually.

Do not be despondent about the fact that the days are ticking, you can be sure that by the time we make our announcement on the exit strategies we have in place for you, you would be further assured about the confidence and the love that you have in your President and the Vice President.

On that note, I say Thank You for having me. Goodnight and God bless you!
