Ayefele’s N800m Fresh FM radio station demolition: What Nigerians are saying

The CEO and founder of Fresh FM radio station, Yinka Ayefele, and his employees will never forget the day Oyo State government demolished their means of livelihood.

Sunday, 19, 2018, when Christian faithfuls were in the church was the day bulldozers from the Oyo State government moved to the scene around 5;30AM and some hours after pulled down part of the building.

By 6.30AM, the station went offline.

The Music House which also housed Fresh FM, is owned by a gospel music sensation Yinka Ayefele.

The demolition of Fresh FM radio station has been drawing reactions from fans and stakeholders in the entertainment industry.

Critics of the Isiaka Ajimobi-led APC government in Oyo State said the action was carried despite a court injunction restraining the government from embarking on the exercise.

Last week, the state government served a demolition notice on the building owner, saying that the building contravened physical planning law.

According to Ayefele, the building, which housed Fresh FM radio station, located in the Challenge area of Ibadan, is valued at over N800m.

While the building was been demolished on August 19, fans and sympathizers of Ayefele and lovers of the Fresh FM radio station converged on the building.

Some of them took to Yinka Ayefele’s Facebook Fans Page which has 839,026 likes at the time of filing this report to air their grievances and views about the demolition, read some of the unedited views below:

Muni-Yisau Wasiu, who sympathized with Ayefele on the demolition, he asked some questions thus:

1)Was the building approved?
As the story on Nigeria Tribune newspaper never confirmed that.
And if it was approved , then court of law will judge and compensation must be paid.
2)Was the building , the only one demolished , on the road?
3) is the extension of the road not going to be benefit to the general road user ?
If so , must one man make others to suffer because he is a star ?
Let’s think about it

His questions generated another wave of reactions by those who condemned the demolition.

To Wasiu Alaba Ayefele’s Music House demolition was politically motivated as he goes spiritual, “I pray this morning those people behind this will be destroyed from generation to generation. Where hundreds of people are working, the best radio station in Ibadan, a multi million investment with hard earned money from a disabled star.

No reason for pity. The state government just further open a new window for Evang. Ayefele to explode financially. Watch the glory of the latter house. It will surely be mightier and greater than the former”— Opaleye Olusegun Ade

Nigeria government like inflicting pains on its citizens on daily basis….anyway I don’t blame dem sha..bcus wen God is ready to deal with a country he give them bad leaders…with dis incident now unemployment rate in dat state will increase likewise social vices….God will judge everyone accordingly”—Afolabi Aderemi Olusoji

That means Oyo state Government don’t like you, my brother come back to your state of origin and do wonders there, I believe Ekiti Government can’t do this to you assuming it was built there, well my good Lord will provide a new one which better than that of Oyo state in Jesus name, it is well”—Eyin Loju Olodumare

Ajayi Isaac says: No one has told us here why d action was a witchunt,is Ayefele a politician? Is d buildin not against town planning laws?

Another facebook user Oyenekan Afeez Abiodun believes that location of the station must have contravened town planning laws, Did Mr Ayefele consult urban planning before erecting the building? Is that building the only affected one in that area?
I guess the road need expansion. The needful should be to assist in rebuilding Fresh FM. God help you sir.

Illegal structures were been demolished anywhere not only in Ibadan, it has happened in Lagos state and its still happening or is it because it’s Yinka’s house? He himself knew and he said it before that it was Arisekola’s influence that was keeping the building in the past. My advice for people is to check before they build. I sympathise with him though……….…Micky Adegoke

To Don Ceejay, Yinka Ayefele should challenge the demolition in court, I believe the land was properly surveyed by the ministry of Urban planning/development commission if there’s anything like that in Oyo state and you also obtained a certificate of ownership of the land b4 building the house, if such were done then u have all the rights to challenge them to court, but if not, hmmmm I’m afraid, you’ve just lost one of your investments…

Another Facebook user, George Adebisi, called on Mr. Yinka Ayefele to tell his fans the genesis of the demolition.

“Of course Yinka Ayefele would feign ignorance of the mêlée and deny the public the information it deserves and the government that threw decorum to the dogs would do as it deemed fit cos of power drunk, Yinka Ayefele should tell the truth.
