Mr. Iyiola Omisore of Social Democratic Party (SDP) was under pressure while answering the question, “Who killed Bola Age? during a debate organised by Channels TV September 16, 2018, in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
Anchored by Seun Okinbaloye, Mr. Iyiola Omisore, who bluntly parried the question simply said:
“I have been acquitted by a court of law. And it’s unfortunate that the question only comes up when there is election.”
“There were other prominent politicians like Funso Williams whose assassination were politically motivated, so I don’t know why the question of who killed Bola Ige should be directed to me.”
“This year will be the last time I will be answering the question,” the seemingly angry SDP candidate said.
Mr. Bola Ige , a serving minister at the time, was killed at his private residence in Ibadan, Southwest, Nigeria, on 23 December 2001.
Before his killing, he had party-related issue with Alliance for Democracy in Osun State.
There had been a long-running feud between him and Osun state Governor Bisi Akande and his deputy, Iyiola Omisore.
Several people were arrested and tried for involvement in the murder, including Mr. Iyiola Omisore, but all were acquitted.
While Omisore was in detention for his involvement in the killing, he won a senatorial seat, beating a serving Senator Akinfemiwa.
Up till now, killers of Mr. Bola Ige have not been found, Ige’s family members once said they’ve handed the killers of their son over to God.
