Balogun, who announced the result of the primaries, said Sanwo-Olu secured 970,851 votes to defeat Mr. Ambode who polled 72,901 votes.
He said by the virtue of the total number of votes cast, Sanwo-Olu will be the party’s gubernatorial flagbearer at the general elections in 2019, saying “Sanwo-Olu is the party’s candidate.”
The panel led by Mr. Clement Ebri, had said the primary could not have held because the modality for its conduct was still being ironed out.
“It is my pleasure and delight to read the result of the election, conducted all over Lagos State, in all the 245 wards, to the public.
“Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the winner of today’s primary election,” Balogun declared.
There has been running battle between the incumbent governor Akinwumi Ambode and his political godfather who turned his back on him to support Sanwo-Olu.
