Nigerian passport is a traveling document issues to Nigerian citizens who plans  to travel outside of Nigeria. Passport is a must for anyone who want to travel outside Nigeria irrespective of your status.

Types of Passport in relation to status

There are two types of passport in Nigeria, they are:

  1. Standard passport
  2. Official passport

While anyone who meets the requirements can apply for the standard e-Passport, the official e-Passport in other hand is exclusively reserved for certain classes of government officials and Nigerian diplomats.

In terms of number of pages a passport has, we have two types:

  1. 34-page page Nigerian passport
  2. 64-page Nigerian passport

The 32-page is suitable for travelers who do not travel often like students, who want to travel for job or to receive medical care.

NIS accredited online payment partners for e-passport

For the online application for Nigeria’s e-passport, there are accredited online payment partners certified by the Nigeria Immigration Service. The essence of listing the certified payment partners is to avoid fraud or paying into the wrong hands.

How to apply for Nigerian e-Passport

Having listed the pre-application information you need, let’s dive right in on how to apply for Nigerian passport online.

You can do this by simply following these steps:

Step 1: Visit the home page of NIS portal at https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/passport/epassport

Step 2: Select your passport type, this selection will generate processing country space, select your processing country. Select Nigeria if you want it processed in Nigeria or you’re in Nigeria.

Step 3: And hit start application.nigerian passport application form pdf infomediaNG

Step 4: Fill the compulsory fields and click “Next”

Step 5: Fill all other information listed above, and check the ”I accept full responsibility for the information provided in this form” and click the “Print” button to print your filled passport form.

Step 6: Click on “Submit Application’ button to view your applicant details page

Step 7: Click on “Proceed to Online Payment” and choose any of the NIS certified online payment partners listed above.

Step 8: Click to select payment currency “Pay in Naira” or “Pay in Dollars” option and click on Continue button

If you selected option to pay in Naira, you will be prompted to select PayType (payment method) I.e bank, credit or debit card payment, for convenience use the credit or debit card option.

Note:

If you choose “bank” it means you will be paying at any of the participating banks

Step 9: Use the “Print Acknowledgment” button to print your passport “Payment Acknowledgment Slip” with Transaction ID, Application ID & Reference Number.

Bank Option:

With the copy of your Payment acknowledgement slip, proceed to a participating bank for payment.

On making payment at the bank, you MUST be issued with an ‘approved payment platform provider’ receipt that contains a “Validation Number”. You will need the “Validation Number” for confirmation of payment on the portal.

Credit or Debit card payment option:

Choose “Credit/Debit card” and click continue, and fill in your log-in credentials, and click “Login” button to proceed to the payment portal.

Click “PAY” button, and then “Continue” button.

You will be taken to “Value Card” payment page, provide information of your card & Click “OK” button

Step 10: When payment is completed, “Validation Number” will be generated for you, ensure to store it and use it to confirm the payment.

You can also print a receipt by clicking the “Print the Receipt” button.

Check your inbox (email) Passport Application Id Passport Reference No will be sent to you. You will the info to track your passport online application.

Required documents for Standard Passport interview

  • Local Government letter of identification.
  • Birth certificate / age declaration.
  • 2 recent colour passport photographs
  • Guarantor’s form sworn to before a commissioner of Oaths / Magistrate /  High Court Judge
  • Parents’ letter of consent for minors under 16 years
  • Marriage certificate where applicable
  • Police report incase of lost passport
  • Submit application with supporting documents to passport office / Embassy / High commission
  • Acknowledgment slip & payment receipt plus 2 recent photographs are applicable in all cases
  • Print out copy of duly completed application form
  • Take printed and signed application forms to Passport office / Embassy / High Commission for further processing
  • A guarantor must attach the following documents
  • Photocopy of Data page of Nigerian standard Passport
  • Driving License or National Identity Card

Required documents for official Passport interview

  • Letter of introduction from appropriate State Government, Federal Government Ministry / Organization.
  • Marriage certificate where applicable
  • Police report in case of lost passport
  • Letter of appointment / last promotion .
  • Submit application with supporting documents to passport office / Embassy / High commission

Seamans Book Requirement

  1. Local Government letter of identification
  2. Birth certificate / age declaration
  3. 2 recent colour passport photographs
  4. Submit application with supporting documents to passport office / Embassy / High commission

Adult (18 years and above)

For adults who are above 18 they are required to provide the following documents

  • Letter of identification from Local Government/State of origin or residence or National Identity Card OR Letter of introduction for employees of government as a Nigerian citizen stating Service Number, Length of Service and Designation/Rank. The letter must be accompanied with a valid staff identity card;
  • Completed passport application form and 2 passport sized photographs (passport photographs endorsed at the back by the Guarantor);
  • Completed Guarantors’ form duly signed by a Commissioner for Oaths attached with Photocopy of Data page of Guarantor’s Nigerian ePassport and one passport sized photograph of the Guarantor;
  • Marriage certificate, where applicable;
  • Birth Certificate (certificate issued by the National Population Commission shall be required from applicants whose date of birth is with effect from Dec 1992) or Age Declaration attached with one passport-sized photograph and duly endorsed by a Commissioner for Oaths
  • Acknowledgement slip and evidence of payment

Minor (under 18 years of age)

  • Completed passport application form attached with 1 passport sized photograph of minor to be endorsed on the reverse side by the consenting parent/s;
  • Evidence of Nigerian citizenship of parent/s;
  • Birth certificate (certificate must be issued by the National Population Commission for minors born within Nigeria);
  • Letter of consent from either parent;
  • Acknowledgement slip and evidence of payment;

For adopted child, you will need Court Order and Letter of approval from State Ministry of Women and Child Development.
