The Wuze 2 Zonal office of Nigeria’a anti-graft agency EFCC was gutted by fire on Monday night.

Two officers attached to the Combined Inter-Agency Task force who were trapped on the second floor of the building were successfully evacuated before the fire was put out.

Prompt intervention of the officials of the Federal Fire Service, FFS, led by Sector Commander, Melone Onyekachi, subdued the inferno.

The fire fighters said they were alerted of the fire by the Incident Duty Officer of the Commission, Kayode Oyetunde, at 1910 hours.

Reports from Abuja said the fire started at EFCC storage room for ICT equipment at the two-storey Costa Hall commissioned by Antonio Costa on November 13, 2007

The building also houses the commission’s Data Centre and the Combined Inter Agency Task Force.

“Our duty is to put off the fire; that we have successfully done. There is another department that will come and ascertain the cause of the fire”, Onyekachi simply said when he was asked what could have caused the fire.

The cause of the inferno wasn’t known at the time of filing this report.

The Commission’s Chief Security Officer, Nasir Abdullahi, immediately after the fire was curtailed, went to the Maitama Police Station to report the fire outbreak.
