Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, who is one of the founding fathers of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has been suspended from the party.
Imo State chapter of the APC made the announcement of his suspension on Thursday followed what the leadership of the party in the state called, “gross anti-party activities.”
The state Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo, who spoke to newsmen said, “A letter by the Imo State chapter of the APC signed by the chairman conveyed the suspension to the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole. We regretted that Okorocha who is the party’s candidate for Imo West Senatorial District has vowed to undermine the APC and its electoral interest.”
Rochas Okorocha was one of the allies of President Muhammadu Buhari, but things fell apart between him and the party as he was alleged imposing his son in law on the party and the state as the governorship candidate of APC.
Rochas has been seen as a prospective Igbo President if he played his game well. The national body of the party hasn’t spoken about the new development.
But his suspension would definitely affect the fortunes of APC in the state in the forthcoming general elections.
