The Lagos State House of Assembly has reportedly finalised move to impeach the state governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
He was accused of spending money which had not been appropriated by the legislative arm of government.
There are unconfirmed reports that Ambode has been secretly funding the campaign of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje.
The allegations started coming up when Ambode failed to secure a reelection ticket of his party APC.
During APC primaries, he lost to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the preferred candidate of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the political heavyweight of Lagos and the National Leader of APC.
One of the strong allegations leveled against him is he was aggrieved by the outcome of the primary and that funds were being diverted through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to fund Agbaje’s campaign.
The governor, however, pledged his loyalty to the party, denying allegations of treachery, he had been heard publicly urging his supporters to vote for Sanwo-Olu
Recalled that Ambode broke with tradition last year when he failed to submit the state budget before the entire House.
The state government had claimed that the budget was privately submitted to the House, a report which many of the lawmakers have denied.
With less than 19 days to the general election, crisis within the party may have dare consequence on the performance of APC at the polls.
