The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is not taking with levity the emergency meeting summoned by the President of The Senate Bukola Saraki, as such President Muhammadu Buhari has summoned members of his party (APC) in a similar move to counter whatever the damaging political move of PDP senators might be.
The meeting will be holding at the Presidential Villa on Monday (today) over the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
Onnoghen was suspended on Friday by President Buhari based on an ex parte order granted by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The troubled Onnoghen facing six counts of false assets declaration filed against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
It was reported that Bukola had also met with PDP senators at his residence on Sunday, January 27, while Buhari’s meeting with the APC governors will take place ahead of the Senate emergency resumption on Tuesday, January 29, when decisions are expected to be taken on Onnoghen’s suspension by the President.
The Punch reported that the meeting which is going to hold at the Banquet Hall, is being tagged as a dinner. Invitations to the meeting were signed by the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, who is also the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi.
It was gathered that heavyweights in the party are also expected to attend the crucial meeting, definitely APC national leader Bola Tinubu will be one of the strongmen to strategically discuss how to tackle the Saraki menance that might take place Tuesday at the floor of the house.
The Punch quoted its spurce as saying: “You know that the Senate leadership belongs to the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party. The party on its own has taken a position on this matter.
“Also, the President of the Senate, who is also the Director General of the PDP presidential candidate Council, Bukola Saraki, has taken a position on this matter.
“So, we need to talk to our members in the Senate and impress it on them not to allow Saraki to impose his personal opinion on them.”
Similarly, APC members in the Lower Legislative Chamber have also fixed an emergency meeting for Monday, January 28.
The Majority Leader, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, who reportedly called the meeting is said to have sent messages to members of the ruling party within The House.
“Honourable colleagues, there will be a meeting of the APC caucus tomorrow, Monday, at 4pm. Venue is the White House Hearing Room 1. Thank you. Femi Gbajabiamila,” reported The Punch.
The suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen has generated heated debate within and outside the country about the legality of the President to sack the no.1 justice in the country.
But then, others have also argued that the troubled CJN having confessed that he failed to declare his assets as stipulated by the law ought to have resigned immediately it was discovered he made a false declaration.
