VP Osinbajo takes TraderMoni N10K free-loan scheme to Ondo

Tradermoni With Yemi Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Monday, January 28, 2019, shunned the condemnation of TraderMoni by Transparency International when he stormed Ondo State for an official launching of the interest-free loan of ten thousand Naira given to petty market traders.

Tradermoni is one of the of the Social Investment Programmes (SIP) of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

Mrs Olubunmi Ademosu, the Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Public and Intergovernmental Relations, said in a statement on Monday in Akure said that Osinbajo is also expected to visit Idanre, Ondo, Ile-Oluji and Akure.

The people of the state would also have the opportunity to interact with the VP in a town hall meeting later today.

“During the visit, Professor Osinbajo will visit the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, the Hausa community at Sabo in Ondo, the Deji of Akure and other notable personalities and locations in the state.

“The officials of the TraderMoni programme from Abuja are already in the state for enumeration of the benefiting market women and eventual payment which will be carried out through payment into individuals’  account,” she said.

Ademosu, who was happy about the scheme said that the TraderMoni would go a long way to improve the businesses of market women.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programme, Mr Felix Alonge, also said all the required structures and processes to ensure that more women from the state benefitted from the programme had been put in place.

Alonge advised beneficiaries of the programme to make judicious use of the loan since it was interest -free, reported the NAN.

Recalled that the opposition PDP and the Transparency International Nigeria (TIN), said that the Federal Government TraderMoni scheme is a form of voter inducement.

Chairman of the observer group, Awwal Rafsanjani, claimed that the initiative is an “Official use of public funds in the name of TraderMoni to actually induce voters”.

“The allegation by many Nigerians that this is clearly a case of vote buying using public funds to do that, and it goes contrary to our constitution and to having a free and fair election,” Mr Rafsanjani stated.

He said the TraderMoni scheme goes contrary to President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement in which the President said no public fund will be used for his re-election.

But the government has shunned such criticisms even from former President Olusegun Obasanjo, PDP and other critics of the ruling government.

  1. My able VP is always on the side of the ordinary man. We know OBJ is behind Transparency International so that renders their words null and void. Where was TI when $2.1 billion grew wings under the past administration?
