The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cried out over the invitation of APC senators by the President Muhammadu Buhari led government, saying it’s a ploy to bribe the lawmakers ahead of the Tuesday’s meeting summoned by Senate leadership .
PDP said the senators were invited by Buhari so they will be able to massively protect him when Senator Bukola Saraki-led senate discusses the suspension of the Justice Walter Onnoghen, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Tuesday.
National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Sunday stated that intelligence available to the PDP showed that that was the reason the Presidency had summoned all the APC senators to the Presidential Villa to a clandestine meeting on Monday (today’s) night.
“President Buhari is not only apprehensive that the Senate might sanction him for violating the constitution and usurping its statutory duties regarding the handling of issues related to a CJN, the parliament may also open an inquest into how President Buhari, who parades himself as Mr Integrity, allegedly procured an order from the CCT upon which he announced the illegal suspension of the CJN.
“There are reports that the said order is suspicious and subject to investigations, being not argued or issued in the open court; following which a distressed Buhari Presidency now seeks to corrupt and undermine the Senate.”
APC was yet to react to the allegation of the PDP at the time of compiling this report.
Both the legislature and executive had been in power tussle late 2018, and the recent action of the executive led by Buhari to suspend CJN Onnoghen has aggravated the hatred between the three arms of government.
While CJN Onnoghen has reportedly accepted his faults for false declaration of assets, Buhari was faulted sacking Onnoghen, saying it’s a violation of the constitution.
