- ADC governorship candidate stepped down for Makinde
- ZLP governorship candidate stepped down for PDP
- SDP governorship candidate to also work with Makinde
It’s a political disaster for All Progressive Congress (APC) in Oyo State today as three major governorship candidates have stepped down for their counterparts in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Oluseyi Makinde.
Those who will be working for the victory of Seyi Makinde at the polls include the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Olufemi Lanlehin, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) Sharafadeen Alli and the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Bolaji Ayorinde
The latest development ended days of anxiety and procrastination by stepping down for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Makinde.
This means that the alliance narrowed down the major candidates in the Saturday, March 9, 2019, election to only All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Adebayo Adelabu and PDP’s Makinde.
The third major candidate, Adebayo Alao-Akala of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) is currently in an alliance with the APC.
In one of our reports, we told you how APC Leader Bola Tinubu sacked Governor Abiola Ajimobi from appearing at APC campaign rallies in Oyo State.
The directors-general of the campaign organizations of the parties involved in the coalition confirmed the decision on Monday, saying that details would be provided later.
The agreement was expected to have been reached on Saturday but the ADC and ZLP were said to be in consultation with their stakeholders.
Only the SDP confirmed its status in the coalition being built with the aim of dislodging the APC which has been governing the state since 2011.
The latest coalition may also means a threat to the political relevance of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State who on February 23 lost s senatorial election. Oyo state is one of the states where PDP defeated the ruling All Progressive Congress.
