It’s a big victory for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State as counting of resumes today. The party won the elections conducted in all three senatorial districts in the troubled state.
The victorious senators are:
- George Sekibo (Rivers East),
- Bari Mpigi (Rivers South East) and
- Betty Apiafi (Rivers West)
They all defeated their opponents with huge margin.
The official collation of the governorship election results earlier published by InfomediaNG showed that Nyesom Wike has 90% chances of returning to the government house.
As of the time INEC announced the continuation of the announcement tomorrow, Wike was already leading with massive margin beyond the imagination of the opposition, which had been claiming victory.
National Commissioner in charge of Bayelsa, Rivers and Edo, May Agbamuche-Mbu, INEC REC in Rivers State, Obo Effangha, INEC REC in Ebonyi and INEC REC in Niger state, Sam Ebu, are among top officials overseeing the collation exercise.
Others are the DSS and Assistant Director, Abdulkadir, and Commissioner of Police CP Usman Belel and other heavily armed soldiers and riot policemen.
While the Navy and Airforce were said to be on standby in case of mayhem. Rivers is one of the states in notorious for election violence.
The state had never witnessed violence-free election since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.
