One of the critics of All Progressive Congress has said that the ruling party uses Yahoo Boy model in the administration of Nigeria.
Reno Omokri made the statement on his official Twitter handle on Saturday while reviewing the activities of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over the Tradermoni interest-free loan the government launched pre-election.
He challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials to divert their attention to areas where powerful politicians who are involved in “official” corruption.
#Tradermoni is dying a natural death after the elections. How many times have you seen @ProfOsinbajo crisscrossing Nigeria on tradermoni mission after the elections? The sad thing is that @officialEFCC is arresting Yahoo boys, when the Yahoo men are there at @AsoRock
Omokri, who was the special assistant to Nigerian former leader Dr Goodluck Jonathan, accused Osinbajo of using the interest-free loan to cajole Nigerians to vote for APC during the just concluded general election.
PDP and other opposition parties had tagged the tradermoni initiative of the ruling government which was intensified a few months to the election as a systematic vote buying.
The ruling APC had defended the initiative severally saying it’s one of the units of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), which is supervised by the Office of The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
It isn’t the first time, Reno Omokri would be calling Aso Rock heavyweights Yahoo Boys.
In March 2018, when it was alleged that Buhari received “fake” Martin Luther King Junior Awards, Omokri reacted saying the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is busy chasing shadows when the real “yahoo boys” “fraudsters” are allegedly in the presidential villa.
Recalled that at the tail end of 2018 and a few weeks to the 2019 presidential election VP Osinbajo covered all the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory officially flagging off the programme.
Tradermoni is an interest free loan given to petty traders. Beneficiaries were first given N10, 000 and were given maximum of six months to refund, when they do, they get access to higher one which is N15, 000, and on and on till N100, 000.
However, lots of beneficiaries have been stranded after getting the N10, 000 as government has not made appropriate arrangements with the banks where they are expected to pay into for them to get the higher one.
The ruling party hasn’t reacted at the time of compiling this report.
