Kogi West Senator at the National Assembly Dino Melaye has called the newly sworn in Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege a mace thief.
In a tweet, the controversial Kogi senator said, “When you work with a mace thief.”
Melaye didn’t mention the Delta senator in his tweet, but Omo-Agege was alleged to have been responsible for bringing in thugs into the Red Chamber in 2018 where the symbol of authority of the Upper Legislative Chamber was carted away from the House of Senate during plenary.
Omo-Agege was suspended on a controversial circumstances and he stormed the House of Senate and shortly, thugs stormed the house to forcibly take the mace away.
On June 11, 2019, during inauguration Omo-Agege emerged as deputy to Ahmed Lawan. His emergence is sequal to the zoning of the deputy senate president to the South South geopolitical zone.
His emergence has sparked controversy among Nigerians as a result of what happened in 2018 and his trending photo where he was seen kneeling before President Muhammadu Buhari when the new leadership of the house paid a courtesy visit to Aso Rock shortly after the election.
Four days after the election, Dino Melaye, who has shown his interest to contest for the Kogi governorship election coming up before the end of the year, indirectly called Omo-Agege out.
A Twitter user Oluwaseun Ara Bamidele said Melaye was once a thug in the floor of the House of Representatives.
“I remember we once had a Hon. that was fighting on a live TV. Cloth torn and all hell loosed. Yet he still stepped up to the red chamber,” he tweeted.
Another user @ezekky said, “Not needed again Oga Senator, soon you have to call him Mr President of Senate if he conduct plenary.”
Another user @kraytvtmgt said, “All we citizens want from you is a better country and not making fun at the detriment of the suffering masses. We want good governance and not comedy please. This is not needed now.”
