Three Nigerian soldiers who were saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives turned to kidnappers and abduct the people they were paid to protect and collect millions of ransom from the family member of their victims.
It was gathered that the criminal soldiers who were deployed to Borno on anti-insurgency mission were arrested for kidnapping, robbery
On Sunday, November 3, 2019, the Edo State Police Command confirmed their arrest through the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chidi Nwabuzo.
Names of 3 Nigerian soldiers who kidnap civilians for ransom
The three culprits are from Nigeria’s three major zones: West, North and South
- Corporal Collins Ameh with Nigerian Army registration number: 13NA/70/4960 of 3 Division, Jos;
- Lance Corporal Balogun Taiwo with registration number 13/NA/69/0369 of 35 Battalion, Katsina;
- Private Evans Isibor with registration number 15/NA/73/1529 of the Artillery Brigade, Owerri.
- Goodluck Igbenebor (a civilian)
Names of victims the soldiers kidnapped for ransom
- Mr. Joseph Otono
- Mrs. Catherine Izuagie
- Mohammed Hassan
Corporals Ameh and Balogun were said to have kidnapped one Mr. Joseph Otono on October 30, 2019 in Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State and snatched his Toyota Voltron car.
Otono was released after undisclosed millions of naira was paid as ransom by his family members.
The same gang members were also reported to have kidnapped a classroom teacher in Fugar, Mrs. Catherine Izuagie, on September 9, 2019. She was also released after ransom was paid.
Private Evans Isibor, who was posted to Maiduguri, Bornu State, to combat insurgency along with the other soldiers, was said to have kidnapped one Mohammed Hassan in Agenebode, Etsako East local government area of Edo State on October 14, 2019.
How the kidnapper soldiers were arrested
InfomediaNG gathered that they were arrested on their way to Lagos with Mr Otono’s car, probably to sell the car.
They had been on the wanted list of the Edo State Police Command for some time, several kidnappings and armed robbery were linked to them in Agenebode, Fugar and other areas of Edo State.
