- 35 out of 80 assistants working in VP Osinbajo’s office were sacked
- A power man within the Aso Rock carried out the sack
- Presidency was yet to react
President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly sacked at least 35 aides working in the office of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo amid rumoured animosity between the two most senior Nigerian citizens.
The sacking came barely a month President Buhari moved the supervision of the Social Investment Programme (SIP) from the office of the VP to the Ministry of Humanitarian Disasters.
The names of the sacked staff have been published as against the claim of the presidency that things were okay.
It was gathered that there were 80 aides working in the office of VP Osinbajo, 35 of them were affected by the tsunami, Daily Nigerian reported Tuesday.
Buhari is currently in London, the United Kingdom for a two-week “private visit” and is expected back in Nigeria on November 17, according to Femi Adesina, Buhari’s spokesman.
The latest Daily Nigerian reported that the affected aides were among those who issued appointment letters in August.
Some of them included some Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Personal Assistants and Technical Assistants.
It was also gathered that before they were sacked, they were horridly posted out to some line ministries relevant to their designation last month.
The move has been described as one of the ways to reduce the influence of the VP in the political landscape.
The report quoted a source as saying, “Although more than half of the aides are under the payroll of donor agencies, the cabal eased them out in order to whittle down the influence of the vice president.”
The presidency had not reacted to the report at the time of this report.
