A 39-year-old pregnant woman has been killed by buffalo in Chama district of Muchinga Province, Zambia
The victim Alice Msimuko according to tumfweko.com, eight months pregnant, was on her way to a local clinic for a maternity check-up when the sad incident occurred.
It was gathered that Alice Msimuko was in the company of another person when they encountered the killer caffer – a subspecies, and the largest one found in Southern and East Africa – on a bush path leading to the clinic.
While the other person could escape the rage of the killer buffalo, the pregnant woman was unable to due to her condition.
Her stomach was ripped open by the buffalo’s horns, removing her eight-month-old unborn child from her womb.
The Provincial Police Commissioner Joel Njase who confirmed the incidence said it happened on Sunday, November 10, around 09:00 hours.
Njase was quoted as saying, “What happened is that the woman was going to Chifunda clinic for maternity check-up, using a bush path, with a friend, when a buffalo came out of the bush.
“The woman was eight months pregnant…she failed to run away, the friend managed to run away and so she was attacked and killed, The buffalo removed the baby from her stomach, itwas a girl and it also died.”
The remains of the woman and her foetus had been buried, another report says.
Large adult of a caffer could weight as much as 590KG. Buffalo are known for their aggressiveness.
