An Igbo woman who teaches at Shehu Sanda Kyarimi II Primary School in Borno State on Friday, February 7, 2020 got an unexpected gift from the state governor Prof. Babagana Zulum during an unscheduled visit to schools across the state.

The governor rewarded the woman with N100, 000 to serve as motivation to other civil servants in the state.

The hardworking primary school teacher Mrs. Obliageri Mazi hails from Abia State, South-East geopolitical zone of the country.

According to Mrs Mazi who had a brief one-on-one conversation at the school premises had spent 31 years in service

It was gathered that Prof. Zulum as early as 6:30AM paid an unscheduled visit to the school “to see how we can improve the infrastructure therein and I met teacher, Mrs Obliageri Mazi, an Igbo Christian from Abia State who served for 31 years in Borno State.

“Although it was very early, I met none of the teachers and their pupils on ground but only her.

“Her gender, tribe, religion or state of origin does not surprise me but her passion, enthusiasm, dedication, commitment and above all patriotism do surprised me a lot,” Zulum said in a Facebook post.

Speaking to the governor in a video clip the woman said, “I’m waiting for students to arrive. I have spent 31 years in service. My salary is N35, 000 per month,” she told Governor Zulum in their interaction.

Meanwhile, in a video which was shared by an aide to the governor Mr Dogo Shettima and Mallam Ameen Amshi, we gathered that Prof Zulum also assured Mrs Mazi of employment after retirement.

Zulum assumed office on May 29, 2019, he had paid several unscheduled visits to government institutions despite some security challenges to access the commitment of civil servants to work.

It’s not the first time the governor would be rewarding civil servants for hardwork. In June, 2019, he rewarded at least 135 workers in the state for their passion to work.
