The beauty of Canadian Immigration is: there is always at least one of them that will suit you in as much you know best path to take. While providing you with the detailed step by step instructions on relocating to Canada, it’s pertinent to highlight the important sub-topics this guide covers:
- Part 1: Understand Canada before moving
- Part 2: Check if you’re eligible?
- Part 3: Types of Canadian Visa you can apply for (Legal residency)
- Part 4: Available Immigration options for you to enter and work in Canada

- Part 6: Complete the online application form (Sample)
- Part 7: Preparing to leave your country to Canada
- Part 8: Where to get Canadian Medical report in your country
- Part 9: Improve your language skills
Let’s dive right in:
Understand Canada and available Immigration Options before moving
Before moving to Canada, it’s helpful to understand that there will definitely be a difference between your country and your proposed host country, no matter how small it is. Total population: 36.29 million (according to 2016 population census) Provinces and territories in Canada: There are 10 provinces and 3 territories in Canada. Though some people refer the territories as province, they are not the same, after all. “The differences are political and historical minutia,” Darryl Wright says. The provinces are:
- Prince Edward Island,
- Nova Scotia,
- New Brunswick,
- Alberta, and
- British Columbia.
Territories: There are three territories in Canada, they are:
- Nunavut, and
- Northwest Territories
Currency: Canadian Dollars (C$) Capital: Ottawa Total number of expats: 6.8 million Official languages: English and French Weather: The winters can be cold; the country’s northern border extends well into the Arctic Ocean. In the southern region where most of its 36 millions residents live, summers are often warm, averaging 25-30°C (77 to 86 °F). With this kind of climate, you will have to adapt quickly. Biggest cities: Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal Social Life: To catch up with the hospitable Canadians, you can plan hiking trips, tours trips and dinner with your co-workers or classmates (if you’re a student). Culture: Since different people from across the world migrate to Canada yearly, you’re definitely going to meet people from virtually every corner of the globe, ranging from their food, dance, and other interesting things. Food: Depending on your location getting your local food (back home) right in Canada could be expensive except you’re in one of the major cities. Taxes: If you’re moving from Australia to Canada, or you’re relocating from America or United Kingdom to Canada, paying taxes is not going to be strange to you. But immigrants from developing countries like Nigeria, Liberia, Kenya, and others will have to prepare their minds for this. You’ll pay tax on most of the things you buy (General Sales Tax, GST), or from salary you earn from your job. Nova Scotia has 15% of sales tax in Canada, making it the highest GST. Healthcare: Every province in Canada has its own health care bill. Healthcare is not free, but not directly paid for, it’s paid for by the taxes you pay.
Are you eligible for any of Canadian Immigration Options?
Before migrating to Canada you have to be sure that you don’t have criminal record, other things eligibility criteria include:
- You must not violate human or international rights
- Someone who is suffering from an acute health challenges may not be allowed
- You may also be disallowed for financial reasons
- If you provide fake information about you (misrepresentation) you may not be allowed to move to Canada. You must provide accurate information; any discrepancy in your data automatically disqualifies you.
- Non-compliance with IRPA (Immigration Refugee Protection Act) may also affect your relocation.
- Having an inadmissible family member
If you meet all the eligibility criteria, then you’re some steps closer to migrating to Canada. Also, you must get the required points. Canadian immigration system is point based; points are allocated to your age, educational or trade qualification, skilled experience, proficiency in English and/or French language and your occupation must be listed in the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) You can self assess whether you can score the minimum points needed for immigration.

It is designed for students, business people: including the Quebec VIP Investment visa Program, temporary workers, families, and refugees who only want to move to Quebec.
