Delta State government has recorded its first death from the deadly coronavirus pandemic, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Thursday, April 9, 2020 told newsmen in Asaba.
It was gathered the patient died shortly after reporting himself at the state’s COVID-19 isolation centre.
Okowa stated that the victim was in Lagos State two weeks earlier and the state is all out for contact tracing to stop the further spread of the virus.
In a message on his verified Facebook Page, Okowa, who is in his second term said, “I have just been informed of another case of #COVID-19 in Delta State. The individual in question had underlying health issues and had visited Lagos State in the past two weeks.
The governor confirmed that the medics tried all that they could by giving the patient the necessary attention before his death.
The identity of the casualty was unknown at the time of this report, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has also confirmed the death.
Moving forward on the measure which has been put in place, Governor Okoya, a member of PDP, stated that “It is important that as we work to protect the citizens and residents of our state, families, and friends of individuals that are exhibiting the primary symptoms of the COVID-19 virus, do not keep it from the authorities.
