The outbreak of the deadly coronavirus has changed a lot of things on how we work as millions of people around the World are lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19, in this post, I’ll share with six effective ways to work from home and achieve your target every day.
Time spent cannot be retrieved when passed, that is why the effective and efficient utilization of time is essential.
With the utilization of my spare time from home for productivity, my approach is not akin to the conventional working at the office.
This is because I don’t need to take a bus or a cab, sit in the overwhelming traffic, deal with attitude issues en rout the office and that of colleagues and superiors at the office and rushing to the office because of lateness.
But there is so much peace of mind that comes with making your house your office. With that, there are new sets of routine you will need to learn, cultivate and put into practice to bring about earning from home.
For me working from home with team members not physically present with me has been very innovative.
It is worthy of note that firms and organizations are finding innovative to reduce and even eliminate physical presence before work is been executed. This comes with the flexibility, comfort and convenience that accompany working from home considering the technology available.
With this more people can be brought into a specific and particular project thereby overcoming the challenge of workspace and still maximizing productivity and earnings at the individual level.
Below are some effective ways to work from home, hands-on tips for maximizing productivity, regardless of where your occupation and some of my experiences you can garner on productive from the convenience of your home.

Set “apart” your work station
Getting to work anywhere at your home like the couch, floor, or a corner in your room could be helpful depending on your individual needs.
It could be at any place depending on the size of your house. But a regular place, seat, table or desk that you move to every time and day to work provides the activation of brain chemistry which connects and sets that place, colour, sight and ambience that comes with accomplishing work.
Place the things you will use to work like notes or writing pads, pen to avoid standing moving about too frequently.
Just as creating your work station is vital to achieving productivity, it is also pertinent to decide with discipline places in your home where you won’t work.
This could be never bringing the laptop to the bedroom or sleeping zone, to the sitting room where the movies are on the television, to the kitchen where the appetizing aroma of the foods will distract and disrupt work accomplishment.
By doing this, you will develop a psychological mind frame and remoteness which will lead you to get focused on mental relaxation even though you are working from the convenience of your home.
Get Professional in your chats and meetings
This has a way of making your work more interesting. By spending time on video chats, in our case, we use a zoom. This will provide interaction with team members though not a formal meeting.
This also is an avenue for consultations and checking on each other which is a vital part of professional improvement.
Stay focused working from home
It’s a good thing to multi-task, but it comes with some challenges and disadvantages. It is important to stay focused on one task or project at a time.
This will ensure channelling physical and mental energies for the accomplishment of one project at a time.
For me, I deactivate my social media notifications. Without this, it is like fiddling with your phone or laptop when in a meet, on the contrary, doing everything humanly possible to stay focused in a meeting.
Act Proactive working from home
Even though you are working from home, it still works and still have the same process and procedure as if you are waking up and getting ready to go work.
Avoid waking up and getting to your workstation as it does not prepare the mind and body for adequate and effective productivity.
Your mind needs to set the tone for the body to cue-in to achieve productivity.
Schedule and energy management
The advantage of working from home is that is the dynamism of the use of your time and energy as you can try out alternate schedules as this could help you discover your “productive time”.
If you are nocturnal it means you are more active during the night and can, therefore, be more productive at night.
This means that you will need to rest or sleep during the day to enable activeness at night. On the contrary, if you are diurnal, it means you are more active during the day and can, therefore, be more productive during the day time.
This implies that you will need to rest or sleep more during at night to enable activeness during the day.
For some people, it is the combination of both depending on their state of mind. The efficiency and effectiveness of productive largely depend on timing.
Be Recreational while working from home
Setting limits while working from home can be a hard thing to achieve.
Cultivate the habit of only working when you are in your work spot; meaning your computer is poised to staying at a particular place during work time.
Just as going to the office has resumption time and closing time, the same should be applied while working from home.
Let your friends know your work time, the time you are working to remind people when you are available or not. Also, cultivate breaks the same way you would have a break at the office.
This takes the forms of diverting the mind to things that are of benefit to other aspects of your life. This would also imply moving out of your work station.
Determine to-do list the day before
This is a way of staying focused and following a pattern. This is when you list the things you intend to achieve the next day in ascending or descending order and in order of priority.
