The West African Examinations Council said the results of the 2020 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination were postponed till next week because of the unrest in Nigeria.

The Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria, Demianus Ojijeogu, who confirmed this on Wednesday said the postponement was due to the violence and arson in the country which affected some of its offices and some of its operations nationwide.

Nigerians in their thousands took to the street a few days ago to protest against police brutality and poor governance in the country. It was tagged #EndSars.

Unfortunately, what started as a peaceful protest was hijacked by hoodlums who destroyed and stole goods from government and private properties.

WAEC building in Calabar, Cross River State capital, was one of public properties that were attacked and looted by angry residents who hid under #EndSars protest.

When candidates of the exam were awaiting the release of the exam results, @waecnigeria tweeted:

“WASSCE SC 2020 Results Release Date: Dear candidates, the Council had planned to release the results today in fulfilment of our Project 45 but due to the curfew imposed last week, it had to be postponed till next week.

Meanwhile, the examination body has announced a new date for 2020 WAEC result
