A few days ago, the Federal Government threatened that any phone number not linked with the National Identity Number (NIN) would be blocked.

So, it became imperative to get your NIN then link it to your phone number so as to avoid penalty.

In this post, we’ll share with you NIN enrolment form which is also obtainable at NIMC registration centres spread across the country.

But to simplify the process NIMC in a tweet said the form can be downloaded and filled, then taken to the NIN centre.

“Fill & submit the form in any of @nimc_ng ‘s enrollment centres to be enrolled into the National Identity Database & be issued the National Identification Number,” it tweeted.

What is NIMC?

In 2010, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) was created by the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007.

NIMC was mandated to register and allocate to every Nigerian a unique National Identification Number (NIN).

Some of the purposes of the NIN is to create a national identity database and eradicate identity fraud and for security measure.

The agency released NIN registration form for applicants to fill, that’s your data!

Upon registration, individuals will be provided with an 11-digit NIN and eventually a national ID card, even though the ID could take more than three years to arrive.

The current security challenges prompted the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directing telecommunications operators like MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9Mobile and others to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers in two weeks.

It’s believed that if an individual’s NIN data is linked to their telecom line, it could help in tracking kidnappers, criminals who use SIM card to make a call.

Some of the details you’ll find on the NIN registration form include:

  • Your names
  • Criminal record
  • Country of residence
  • Where you were born
  • Physical features like your height
  • Supporting documents such as National insurance card, Passport
  • Native language
  • Details of your parents
