Export prohibition items are products and goods that are legally banned from being transported outside the country of jurisdiction.

In international trade, a supplier or seller must be guided by trade and export laws in their country of residence and the destination country of goods.

In Nigeria for instance, some goods are banned from being exported in order to preserve cultural heritage e.g artifacts.

Note:

To start selling at the international market, you must be licenced by NEPC (the Nigerian Export and Promotion Council).

Products you can not export from Nigeria to another country according to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) are:

  • Maize
  • Scrap Metals
  • Raw hides and skin
  • Unprocessed rubber latex and rubber lumps
  • Timber (rough or sawn)
  • Artifacts and Antiquities
  • Wildlife animals are classified as endangered species and their products.
  • All goods imported

Wrapping up:

Usually, the number of import prohibited items is more than the banned export products. This is most important for suppliers and sellers from Nigeria who get orders from the international market.
