Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar is a Nigerian politician who served in two ministries during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. He first served as the Minister of Environment between August 21, 2019 to September 1, 2021, then as the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development between September 1, 2021 to May 29, 2023
Education qualifications
Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar was born in Tudun Wada, Kaduna South of Kaduna State, where he spent most of his foundational education before proceeding to the United States for his first, second, and doctoral degrees. He attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a bias in Microbiology.
For his postgraduate degrees, he attended the University of Arizona in Tucson for his Master of Science in Resource Management and PhD in Watershed Management.
Upon his return to Nigeria for his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar was deployed to the NNPC Kaduna Refinery in Kaduna, serving as a microbiologist.
International engagement
He returned to the United States to work as a microbiologist at the Kittitas County Health Department, University of Arizona. Also, Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar worked at E&A Environmental Services Los Angeles, California and later as the Industrial Waste Investigator for the Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle, and later at Kittitas County (Health Department).
