Tinubu under pressure to appoint Ambassadors amid diplomatic misinformation

how Bola Tinubu made Buhari the president in 2015

Reliable sources say President Bola Tinubu is under pressure to appoint new ambassadors and high commissioners as Nigeria’s official representatives in countries around the world.

Nigeria has not had any ambassadors since Tinubu recalled all 109 career and non-career ambassadors in September 2023. He has been under pressure since then over the need to appoint new ambassadors.

Since that recall, most embassies have been managed by chargés d’affaires, a situation that has weakened Nigeria’s influence abroad.

InfomediaNG gathered that the move is part of a multi-strategic approach following United States President Donald Trump’s promotion of the narrative of “Christian genocide” by those he referred to as Islamic insurgents. Although the U.S. President did not cite many reliable sources, he later threatened to go “guns-a-blazing to that disgraced country” to wipe out the killer terrorists.

Some Nigerian international analysts say the issue would not have “escalated to such a humiliating remark” if Nigeria had ambassadors in the U.S. and other key strategic countries around the world.

It was gathered that Tinubu has directed the security services to conclude the vetting of nominees for foreign missions with immediate effect.

Experts say ambassador-level representation is critical as Nigeria navigates complex international politics.
