A social media user, Jonathan Joshua Nyitse, has shared a video showing how villagers allegedly captured family members of bandits who abducted residents of Babanlu village in Katsina State, forcing the bandits to release their captives in exchange for their relatives.
According to the video clip he posted on Facebook, which has been reshared several times on X and has gained thousands of views, Infomedia Nigeria gathered that the bandits kidnapped 30 people in Babanlu village and demanded ₦100 million for each victim.
It was further revealed that the villagers and vigilantes responded by seizing the bandits’ brothers, parents, and other family members, and then used them to negotiate the victims’ release.
“After three days, the bandits freed everyone, gave ₦30,000 per person for transport, and only then got their families back, no deaths were reported,” he says.
Efforts by Infomedia Nigeria to verify the report proved abortive, as the head of Babanlu village had yet to respond to messages sent to him.
