University (KOMU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on student exchange programmes, community services, and research, among other collaborations, that would boost the morale of students in both institutions in their academic pursuits.
The MoU which was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of DUI Prof Jacinta Opara and her counterpart Prof Ikechukwu N.S Dozie of KOMU, took place at Imo Concorde Hotel, Owerri, Imo State capital.
Both institutions will, among other things, work together in the areas of “short courses and
summer program activities and “provide support to their students who wish to spend a semester or academic year at the other institution,” a statement from DIU sent to InfomediaNG says.
Even as both institutions organize joint conferences, workshops and related activities, the MoU states that the participating students in the exchange programme will be responsible for the expenses, including travel expenses, application fees, health insurance, and sustenance costs, among others.
“Each participating student will take courses offered at the host institution. Academic credits, earned at the host institution may be transferred back to the home institution in accordance with procedures determined by the latter.”
During the 3-year duration of the collaboration, DUI and KOMU will commit “institutional resources, personnel, space, facilities, or any other academic or intellectual activities” for use by the students.
As for the exchange programme, the institutions will select and recommend well-qualified students for student exchange who satisfy the specific admission requirements as outlined by both parties, including presenting a strong recommendation letter from the Vice Chancellor of DUI or KOMU.
While DUI, based in Ibadan, is the first university of the Order of Preachers in Africa, KOMU, formerly Eastern Palm University, is a public university owned by the Imo State Government.
“This collaborative relationship between Dominican University and the Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University would be of immense mutual benefits, including the exchange of knowledge, resources, and best international practices and in the context of sustaining cooperation and partnership between Nigerian universities,” Opara said.
On August 5, 2024, Dominican University, under the leadership of its first female Vice-Chancellor, signed a similar Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a prestigious Korean university renowned for its commitment to international education and generous scholarships for international students.
