Prof Nosike Assumes Duty as Chairperson of Institutional Audit in Namibia

A renowned professor of economics and business, Austin Nosike, has assumed duty as the chairperson of the Institutional Audit Panel at Welwitchia University in Namibia.

The audit exercise will run from November 11 through November 28, 2024, Namibia’s highest education regulatory agency, the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE), said in an appointment letter dated October 23, 2024, signed by the Deputy Executive Director of NCHE, Ms. Sylvia Demas.

The appointment aligns with the country’s 2003 Higher Education Act No. 26 of Parliament and Article 56 of the Constitution.

According to the NCHE, the appointment, based on Nosike’s qualifications, experience, and credentials, is expected to usher in an era of innovation and academic excellence.

The statement highlighted Nosike’s extensive track record in higher education and his commitment to fostering learning and research positions to make a sustainable impact on university audits and the broader academic community.

A former journalist, Austin Nosike is one of the most sought-after academic administrators, with scholarly works and projects that remain reference points in his field.

His past academic roles include being a lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic and the Nigerian Defence Academy, both in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

He has also served as Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Kigali (UoK); as a Visiting Professor of Management at Kigali Independent University (ULK) and Uganda Pentecostal University in Fort Portal; and as a Visiting Scholar in Globalization and Development at Universidad del País Vasco, Gipuzkoa, Spain. He is also the President of Development Africa Consortium, among others.

Prof. Nosike has received numerous awards, including the West Coast University Research Award, Central European University Fellowship Award, and the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Travel Research Grant Award.

With more than 100 international conferences, seminars, workshops, and over 150 publications, Nosike currently serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor responsible for academic leadership, resource mobilization, and research administration at the International University of Equator in Bujumbura, Burundi.

He previously held the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Copperstone University, Kitwe, Zambia.

He hails from Emii, Owerri North, Imo State.

He is an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1993. He continued his graduate studies at Imo State University, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) in Port Harcourt, Centre for Social Studies (CSS) in Warsaw, Poland, the University of Lancaster in the United Kingdom, Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, Hungary, and the International Institute for Human Rights in Strasbourg, France.

His qualifications include a Master’s degree in Management from Universidad Católica de Murcia (UCAM) in Murcia, Spain; a PhD in Economics from Universidad Central de Nicaragua; and an MSc in Accounting and Finance and a PhD in Business Administration from Universidad Azteca in Chalco, Mexico.

Fluent in Spanish and English, Prof. Nosike also speaks several local languages from his home country. He is married with children.

The Namibian government, through the NCHE, expressed satisfaction with Nosike’s appointment and assumption of duty to this esteemed position, stating they look forward to his contributions to assuring quality education in Namibia.
