The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) continues to update the list of prohibited items on its official website and its social media handles following different tactics used by the highly-techy candidates for the examination.
Before now, JAMB prohibited items that candidates are not allowed to take into the examination hall were not up to 15. But then it was discovered that the candidate had device several methods to exploit the process.
In an infographic posted on the JAMB portal, the examination body listed 24 items candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) are prohibited from taking to the examination hall.
The body said:
“To ensure that the board’s examinations meet best global practice, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has prohibited the use of the following items during examinations.
“Candidates are hereby advised not to bring these items close to the examination venue in their best interest. Any breach of this directive would bar the candidates from taking the examination.”

What can I not take to the JAMB exam hall?
As a candidate, you are not allowed to take the following materials into the JAMB exam hall:

1 | Watches | Smartwatches can be exploited in a negative way like cheating during exam |
2 | Pen/Biro | There are electronic pens that could be used to store sensitive info which candidates could use |
3 | Electronic devices including mobile phone | Five or more textbooks can be stored on a mobile phone for cheating purposes |
4 | Spy reading glasses | Spy glasses are mostly used by security operatives because it has in-built iframes that take footage. Candidates are prohibited from taking such techy glasses to JAMB hall |
5 | Calculators | The examination body makes provision for it, as such external calculators are not allowed in the exam hall |
6 | Storage devises USB, Hard Disk | |
7 | Reading materials like books | Reading in the exam hall isn’t allowed, so why would you bring it to the exam hall? |
8 | Cameras | Cameras are also storage devices, as such don’t bring them to the hall |
