A Nigeria-based poultry farm, Taro Agric Farms (TAF), has won the 2025 Best African Agriculture Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Award at the 2025 Innovate UK KTP Awards, which held in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Taro Agric Farms won the award for its pioneering use of data-driven technology to transform poultry farming in Nigeria after its collaboration with Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, and the University of the West of England, Bristol.
The partnership between OAU, UWE, and the poultry farm saw the farm deploying Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, cloud-based dashboards, and predictive analytics to improve poultry welfare, production efficiency, and profitability.
The farm is one of the skills training centres designated by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), an agency of the Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria, for the training of unemployed Nigerians in fisheries and aquaculture, beekeeping, among others.
Founded by Mr. Olamide Akintaro, Taro Agric Farms has been in poultry production for more than 10 years.
According to the founder, deploying technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has helped reduce mortality rates and increase production.
The 2025 Innovate UK KTP Awards, celebrating 50 years of innovation and collaboration, brought together businesses, academics, and graduates shaping the UK and international innovation landscape.
