Times Higher Education 2027: African Countries’ Representation in World University Rankings

In the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking, 21 countries out of 54 African countries were represented. Egypt has the highest number of universities in THE ranking, having 40 of its universities featured on the list, followed by Algeria, which had 31 universities on the list.

Highlights:

  • 33 African countries didn’t have representation.
  • East Africa has the highest representation, with seven countries from the region.
  • Regionally, no university from Central Africa made THE 2027 World University Ranking.
  • Out of six countries in North Africa, only Sudan has no representation.
  • Only three out of 16 countries from Western Africa – Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal – have representation.
  • All countries in Northern Africa were represented except Sudan.
