32-Page Nigerian Passport No Longer N35K as NIS Hikes Passport Fees

The 32-page Nigerian Passport will cease to be N35,000, according to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), saying that the 5-year validity passport will now cost N50,000 beginning from September 1, 2024

In a statement signed by the NIS Public Relations Officer DCI Kenneth Udo on Wednesday, the Service also disclosed that the 64-page passport booklet with 10-year validity which was N70,000 will now be N100,000.

It says the upward review was part of the government’s efforts “to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.”

Nigerians berate government over hike

Meanwhile, Nigerians have berated the government for hiking the price of Nigerian Passport. While some of them said the 10-day period was short to announce a new price, some of them claimed that the new price had come into effect the same day the new prices were announced.

An X user @enwagboso says, “The 10-day notice for the passport price increase is an example of the government’s lack of empathy and consideration for its citizens.”

He suggested that the government should have delayed the new prices till January 1, 2025.

But another user simply as @seun4christ claimed that, “There’s no 10 days notice. Payment has been stopped already,” according to him, “All attempts to pay this evening have so far failed.”

To @IamEriOluwa, who says the Nigeria immigration has increased the price of Nigerian Passport three times within a year “won’t deter anyone from leaving” the country for Nigerians seeking greener pastures.

“From N25K to N35K to N50K, all within a year, you’ve truly outdone yourselves this time.

He criticised the government for hiking the price of passports “in the middle of an economic crisis.
