There are 774 Local Government Areas recognized by Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution. By number, Kano State has 44, the highest while Bayelsa State has the least with 8 LGAs.

If we segment the local government areas by the six geopolitical zones, the Northwest has the highest (186) while the Southeast has the lowest with 95.
