Meet Simon McWilliams, Tether’s New CFO

Simon McWilliams is an expert in investment, risk management, financial management, and financial reporting. He is the current Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Tether Limited Inc.

Education

After high school, McWilliams enrolled in the Accounting Department at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa, where he earned a Bachelor of Accounting Science (BAcc). He proceeded to IE Business School, Madrid, Spain, for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and later obtained another Master’s in Finance from INSEAD Business School.

McWilliams also holds a Diploma in Microsoft Excel VBA Development from Kensington College of Business, London. VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) is a programming language developed by Microsoft Inc.

Career

From February 2004 to July 2008, he served as Finance Manager at Man GLG, London, UK. He then moved to Investment Dar, an asset management firm, where he served as Head of Finance and Operations from August 2008 to February 2013.

In March 2013, Simon McWilliams moved to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where he served as Capital Markets Finance Manager at Waha Capital for nine months.

According to his LinkedIn profile, his core experience as a Chief Operating Officer began at Quantmetrics Capital Management, London (2013–2016). He later joined LetterOne in the same capacity in London before moving to WizzFinancial, a UAE-based company, where he worked remotely, rising from Business Advisor to Senior Business Advisor.

In January 2025, he joined Tether Limited Inc. as the company’s CFO. Tether is a blockchain technology company behind several stablecoins, including USDt (USD-pegged stablecoin), CNHt, EURt, MXNt, and Tether Gold token (XAUt).
