CAC Postpones Implementation of New Fees by 30 Days

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has postponed the implementation of new fees and penalties for document downloads to September 1, 2025. Originally, the new fees were scheduled to take effect from August 1, 2025.

The agency made the announcement on Monday, July 21, 2025, following technical glitches users are experiencing on its newly redesigned AI-powered Intelligent Company Registration Portal (ICRP).

Similarly, the deadline for downloading documents after a completed registration, previously set at seven days, has also been extended until September 1.

In our continuous efforts to ensure the smooth operation of our upgraded Company Registration Portal, and in consideration of feedback from our valued customers and stakeholders, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) wishes to announce the postponement of the implementation of the new fees and penalties for document downloads beyond 7 days,” CAC says.

Before the new ICRP, a completed business or company registration that failed to download documents, such as the status report or business certificate, within seven days was mandated to pay ₦5,000 per document request.

However, this fee has now been temporarily suspended until the technical glitches on the newly designed portal are fully resolved, ensuring seamless business and company registration.

The decision followed the CAC’s observation of the transitional challenges some users are facing, “particularly in areas such as: Downloading of documents, Payment processing, Post-incorporation filings for Business Names, and Upload of certain required documents.

It promised to fix the ongoing issues as quickly as possible, stating:

“We are working tirelessly, alongside our technical partners and stakeholders, to stabilize the system without shutting down the entire portal.”

The CAC added that the temporary relief:

“…is part of our commitment to supporting businesses and ensuring a seamless user experience during this transition phase.”

There has been backlash over the new portal redesign, but the new assurance and follow-up on users’ feedback is expected to calm the situation.
