Suspended ‘billionaire’ Nigerian Policeman Abba Kyari denies ownership of Borno property

Abba Kyari Nigerian Senior Police Officer Collected Bribe From Hushpuppi

Suspended Nigerian policeman, Abba Kyari, has denied ownership of a property in Borno State linked to him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in his ongoing trial over alleged non-disclosure of assets.

The suspended officer, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and former head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), has been standing trial following his arrest over alleged links to a drug-related bribery case.

Testifying on Tuesday before Justice James Omotosho, the presiding judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Kyari disclosed that the property belonged to his late father.

Ownership of a polo ground located in Borno State has also been linked to him. He denied the allegation, stating that he does not have the financial capacity to own such a property. “Even Dangote, who is the richest man in Nigeria, does not own such a property; how much more someone like me,” he said.

DCP Abba Kyari stated that the polo ground has been in existence since his childhood and served as a playground for them when he was younger.

However, he admitted ownership of a farmland located along the Abuja–Kaduna road, which he claimed to have been managing for more than 10 years, stating that, “£7,000 found in my domiciliary account was properly declared.”

On his operation at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, where two drug traffickers were arrested, he accused NDLEA officers of complicity.

The trial judge, Justice Omotosho, adjourned the matter until November 5 for continuation of the trial.

Recall that the ‘super-cop’ and most decorated police officer was arrested on February 14, 2022, in a cocaine smuggling case. He was described as a “billionaire” because of property allegedly traced to him.
