Meet Muhammad Mamman Nami, Who Increased FIRS Revenue By 150% in 4 Years

Between December 9, 2019, to September 14, 2023, Mr Muhammad Mamman Nami was in charge of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as the Chairman of the tax collection agency.

He took over from Mr Babatunde Fowler, whose tenure was not renewed by the president.

His tax collection record at FIRS

Several achievements can be attributed to his leadership, but the one that specifically caught our attention is how he increased revenue collection of the agency from N4.95 Trillion in 2020 to N12.37 Trillion at the end of 2023, that’s approximately 150.10 percent.

Although, the tax collection record of the agency in the year his predecessor left was N5.26 Trillion (2019), in the following year, the tax collection decreased by more than N300 Billion.

But in 2021, the agency under his leadership raked in N6.40 Trillion as tax collection, increasing it by 29.29% than 2020.

By the end of 2022, the revenue collection had improved by 57.81% (from N6.40 Trillion to N10.10 Trillion).

And by 2023, he left behind a record of N12.37 Trillion, a record his successor Zacch Adedeji has vowed to break by targeting N19.4 Trillion for 2024
