N-Power Device Selection Guide base on popularity

This article isn’t meant to influence your device decision, but to serve as Npower Device Selection Guide. Whatever selection you made, it’s absolutely yours.

By popularity we mean the number of people using the device outside Npower circle.

In this case, the more popular the device, the more maintenance providers in the market in case the device develops fault.

For instance, there used to be a time when Sagem and Nokia phones were the most popular in the market, then phone service engineers who specialized in Sagem and Nokia could easily be found in the market.

Practice, they say, makes perfection. Then, it’s easy to get your nokia or sagem phones fixed; the accessories were also readily available in the markets.

Though the device pick up centres might also serve as maintenance points, but no communication has been issued as regards this by the Federal Government.

If you do quick run down of the devices, you already know which ones are popular in the markets, which isn’t?

One of the available N-Power devices you might want to select base on popularity in the market are:

  1. Afrione 2in1
  2. Speedstar windows tablet
  3. HP (was later dropped)
  4. Zinox Zpad tablet
  5. Techno pad
  6. Samsung Tab E
  7. Brian N-power iPad 1
  8. RLG Tablet
  9. Floss Signatures tablets

To us at infomediaNG our best Npower device if we’re using popularity as a condition for selection, then we’d go for N-power tecno.

N-Power Device Selection base on price

Don’t be afraid, the deduction is insignificant when compared to how much the device cost in the market.

Npower Volunteers do not want their stipend to be greatly affected by the selection of device they made.

And in this regard, we believe that the Federal Government is fair enough by making the device readily available at highly subsidized rate, while some are said to be free.

Disclaimer: This article isn’t meant to influence your device decision, but to serve as Npower Device Selection Guide; to help you make the right choice. Whatever selection you made, it’s absolutely yours, infomediang won’t be held liable.

There is a Tool Grant provided by the Federal Government to cover your device as it is a compulsory tool for learning and work in the N-Power Volunteer Scheme.

Please note, however, that the costs of some devices are above the amount the Tool Grant covers. If your preferred device is above the amount covered by the grant, the additional cost will be deducted from your monthly stipend over the period of the programme, not exceeding twenty (20) months.

Now let’s take a look at the prices of the Npower devices base on government’s affirmation about price and payment.

Best N-Power Device In Terms of Battery Strength

In this post, we’re going to tell you the best N-Power device in terms of battery strength.

Using Battery Strength as a Selection Criterion for Npower Tablet Devices

Using battery strength  as Selection Guide for Npower Tablet Device, let’s see the strong points of the N-power devices in terms of battery below:

  1. Floss Signatures 7hrs30mins
  2. AfriOne iPad 5hrs20mins
  3. Samsung Tab 5hrs
  4. Zinox Zpad 4hrs
  5. RLG Npower Tabler 5hours 20mins

Note: * means star rating

Floss Signatures Tablets-*****
AfriOne iPad -****
RLG -****
SAMSUNG TAB -***
Zinox Zpad Tablet -**

We all have preferences when selecting or buying gadgets: tablet, phone, laptop, smartwatch, mp3 etc.

We’ll be looking at battery capacity, battery life if you like, of the 5 Tablet devices available for 2017 applicants to choose from.

You might have seen something like this mAH in front of the battery digits.

CHECK them out :

1) AfriOne Tablet -5400mAH
2) Samsung pad-5000mAH
3) RLG TABLET -5400mAH
4) Zinox Zpad Tablet -4000mAH
5) Floss Signatures Tablet-7500mAH

The figure calculated by mAH determines the hours you will be able to spend browsing.

What is mAH in relation to Tablet phone battery?

Let’s break it down

m means Milli
A means Ampere
H means Hour

But it’s written Milliampere per hour

Why is the middle letter (A) capitalized?

“The A is capitalized because, under the International System of Units, “ampere” is always represented with a capital A.

The term mAh is an abbreviation for “milliampere hour,” and it’s a way to express the electrical capacity of smaller batteries.

With larger batteries, like car batteries, we usually use ampere hours, or Ah.”—John Dyne of Android Authoritysays.

HOW to know HOW long my Tablet battery will last using mAH?

This is is HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR TABLET BATTERY DURATION

“There are 1000 mAh in a single Ah. mAh is calculated by multiplying the amount of time the battery lasts by the amperes of the discharge current.

If you have a battery and you don’t know what it’s capacity it is, all you have to do is hook it up to supply a 1000 mA discharge and see how long it lasts.

If it lasts an hour, hey, you’ve got a 1000mAh battery.

IF it lasts 7 and a half hours, well then you’re holding a 7500mAh battery.

1) HOW long will AfriOne Tablet battery last?

Don’t forget that AfriOne Pad has 5400mAH ,it means it’ll last for 5hours, 20minutes

2) HOW long will Samsung Pad battery last?

With 5000mAH, it means this device will last for 5hours.

3) For HOW long will RLG Tablet battery last?

With 5,400mAH, this device battery can last for 5 hours 20 minutes

4) HOW long will Zinox Zpad battery last?

With 4000mAH, it’ll last for 4hours.

5) HOW long will Floss Signatures Tablet battery last?

This is a 5-star rating (*****) in terms of battery.

With 7,500mAH, you can be surfing or chatting on WhatsApp for 7 hours, 30 minutes. That’s huge!

The above duration you can stay online with your Tablet also depends on a number of factors:

-number of apps you are running concurrently
-screen display duration
-backlight brightness
-HOW savvy and addicted you’re on Tablet.

For instance, I could be  online, pressing my phone, from morning till night, if I’m not with family or doing other things. Sounds weird! Yeah, my device has to pass battery test!

HOW TO SAFE IS YOUR TABLET BATTERY

Don’t worry if you’ve selected a device, which battery lasts for 4hours.

You can possibly make it last than someone who chose above 5hours battery strength.

“In real life, discharge rates vary not only from device to device, but also user to user.”—John Dyne

1) Close unused apps
If you have five or more applications running concurrently running on your device, then your battery might run down on time. There are lots of applications that are unstoppable on android devices, running more unused apps means more pressure on your device battery.

Close any unused apps.

2) Regulate brightness of screen

“How efficiently your smartphone manages its battery power plays a role, but so too does the amount of active screen time you typically experience as well as how resource-hungry your apps are.”—Android Authority

To maximize your battery, Click on Settings>Display>Click on Brightness to red set it to your preferred choice.

3) Off your data when you’re not doing anything online

Internet connection is one of battery-eating factor. When you’re busy doing other necessary task, you can put off your data temporarily.

4) Check apps running under
5) If you like game close it when you’re not playing it.

Floss signature is our Best Npower Device In Terms of Battery Strength, and we hope you see the conditions before picking it.

N-Power Device Selection base on Screen Size and Display

In this guide we’ll display all ther N-power devices for you to see their screen size and use the one with wider screen size as a condition for selection.

“Phone display is arguably the most important component in your smartphone because it serves as your only interface. You’ll spend a lot of time staring at it.”

Disclaimer: This article isn’t meant to influence your device decision, but to serve as Npower Device Selection Guide for you make the right choice. Whatever selection you made, it’s absolutely yours.

Most times Npower candidates might want to first focus on resolution when using display as one of the criteria.

“This can be deceiving because a large screen with a high resolution may not be as sharp as on a small screen with lower resolution.

What you really want to know is how many pixels are packed into each inch. You can calculate this yourself if the specification isn’t provided. More pixels per inch mean a sharper picture, a tech expert and reviewer Matt Smith  said.

“Once you know the pixel density (PPI), you should find out the display technology used. The most common flavors are IPS-LCD, OLED and Super LCD.

We at infobase believe that the Federal Government has selected the best devices in terms screen size and display.

One of the available N-Power devices you might want to select base on screen size (display) are:

Afrione 2in1: 10.1” IPS/800×1280 pixels

Best Npower Device In Terms of Battery Strength

Any of the above npower tablets is superb using display as a factor for selection.

“On average you should be looking at about 720 x 1280, 306 PPI,” Dan Foster, a mobile phone review expert who helps customers to make better buying decisions at Tiger Mobiles says.

This review is for applicants who might want to select his/her Npower Device Selection base on Screen Size/ Display.

Above all, the display sizes of all the nine devices are cool, but if we’re to pick base on screen size and display then we’d go for any of the following: Speedstar, AfriOne, tecno or Brian iPad.

Which would you pick?

N-Power Device Selection base on beauty

Another devise selection deciding factor, BUT NOT THE BEST, is the attractiveness and beauty of a device.

Beauty of a device should be the last factor. We understand the fact that we all want something cool. But make sure you check the most important specs of the npower tablets.

Collection Date for N-Power devices for 2017 volunteers

We can’t specifically say, but it’s been speculated that option to select your preferred device might be activated in May.

N-Power hasn’t mention the exact date, but said the options to select device will be made available soo.

What is N-Power Device Delivery Date?

N-power device delivery date has been announced by the management of the job initiative programme. This means beneficiaries will soon be proud owners of loaded gadgets.

In this regard, first batch of N-power Devices, AfriOne 2-in-1 Transformer arrived the FCT, Abuja, Headquarters of the youth empowerment programme on July 1,2017.

On July 2,2017, N-power announced officially the Expected Delivery Dates of all 8 Devices that had earlier been selected by volunteers.

What is N-power Device Delivery Date?

Expected Delivery Date, EDD for short, in relation to goods and services means the date which the seller is expected to deliver the goods on which order was placed by the buyer.

EDD is also used in relation to pregnancy, when a pregnant woman is expected to give birth, which could be before or some days after the EDD.

But in relation to Social Investment Programme (SIP) N-power Device Delivery Date, (EDD) is the date contractors of N-power Devices are expected to physically deliver the gadgets they’re commissioned to supply.

When the number of N-power Devices were satisfactorily deliver to SIP office in Abuja, then the contractors/manufacturer could be paid.

Expected Delivery Date of N-power Devices doesn’t mean Distribution Date.

“The estimated delivery date is based on the seller’s handling time, the shipping service selected, and when the seller receives cleared payment.”—Ebay

N-power Device Delivery Date Illustration

For those who are familiar with online marketplace like AliExpress, most of the time buyers receive their goods before the Expected Delivery Date.

AfriOne (2i-in-1) EDD is July 15, 2017, and the first batch of the devices arrived Abuja yesterday.

This means that the supplier is determined to ensure that he delivers them before the Expected Delivery Date.

Expected Delivery Date is a target date set by supplier agreed upon by the buyer to take  delivery of goods

Real N-power Device Delivery Date

N-power /SIP will have to certify that the gadgets were  delivered as specified in the T&C (between the buyers and the suppliers) before N-power announces Dates of Collection.

The gadgets will be dispatched to Collection Centres nationwide when the specified number the manufacturer was commissioned to supply is “okayed” by the SIP/N-POWER.

N-power Device Collection Centres

During selection time, every device had support centres nationwide.

However, no one, except N-power, can specifically say if the support location centres will also serve as the pick up centres for the devices.

N-Power Device Manufacturers: What we know about them

Nigeria’s Federal Government under its youth empowerment programme has given out great devices to its beneficiaries, in this post we’ll tell you the company profile of some of the Npower device manufacturers.

Makers of N-Power devices are:

  1. BETA COMPUTERS Limited
  2. Afrifone Limited
  3. Samsung Electronics
  4. Zinox Technologies
  5. RLG
  6. Techno Mobile

If there is any programme initiated by the Federal Government that deserve commendation its N-power job programme, which is targeting over 500,000 Nigerian youths. 200, 000 people are already in its payroll, another 300, 000 are on their way to be paid, making it 500,000 for the graduates.

Though, it’s designed to last for two years, the technology embedded in the programme has further makes it unique.

While unveiling the commencement of the programme in 2016 FG already had plans to give out “N-powerment” devices to successful volunteers, which led to the commissioning of nine tech firms to produce high-powered tablets for the volunteers. Unfortunately HP later pulled out.

So, who are the brains behind N-power Tablet Devices?

Financially powered by the Bank of Industry (BoI), N-power devices that were produced and currently being given out to volunteers include: Samsung Galaxy Tab E, AfriOne 2-in-1 Transformer, Techno Droid 10, Zinox Zpad tablet, Floss Signatures, Speedstar windows, RLG tablet, and Brian N-pad.

Afrifone Limited is one the firms commissioned to produce devices for the N-power job initiative of the Social Investment Programme  (SIP) of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

N-power Device Tablet AfriOne 2-in-1 Transformer Specifications and Photo

It’s the manufacturer of 2-in-transformer, Gravity Z1, and Champion…a company located in Nigeria, producing gadgets for world’s consumption.

Its device is one of the best beating other established names in the smartphone industry.

Incorporated in 2016, AfriOne is a subsidiary of London-headquartered Contec Global Group.

It plans to penetrate Nigerian market, and subsequently the African mobile assembly market by establishing a manufacturing plant in Lagos. The first factory has been established in Oshodi, Lagos.

The aim of the tech firm is to align with the “Made in Nigeria” initiative of the present government and generate employment opportunities for the Nigerian youth.

The company presently has four assembly lines, and determined to provide jobs to about 500 indigenous workers at the rate of 120 workers per assembly line.

Afrifone Limited will also indirectly empower 5000 youth through its “young entrepreneur” and “Afrifone distribution” programme specifically aimed at creating employment through creative ideas in the technology.

Afrione takes pride to be the first mobile, tablet, laptops, and consumer electronics manufacturer in Nigeria and in fact in the whole of Africa.

The company’s state of the art facility is spread out over 20,000 sq.ft. including R&D and testing laboratories in Lagos State. The facility will be able to produce 300,000 products a month on its four production lines.

As a pioneer entity we see this as just the first phase of an opportunity to standardize the use of technology in Nigeria by offering affordable innovations and removing barriers for large-scale adoption of advanced technology and make it accessible to everyone –hence the tagline Afrione-One for everyone.

On April 21, 2017, Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and other dignitaries was at the formal launch of the smartphone maker.

“We model products that utilize cutting-edge technology, reflect a modern, sleek design and integrate the latest and arguably necessary financial technology such as mobile banking, all with the goal of facilitating connectivity among Nigerians and the rest of the world.” -said Founder and CEO of AfriOne, Sahir Berry.

During his tour of the company’s facility on September 5, 2017, Nigeria’s minister of communication and technology Adebayo Shittu was quoted by Guardian Newspapers as saying, “We will prevent, or at least, discourage the continuing practice of making Nigeria a dumping ground for all kinds of products and services.

“I have visited factories like this overseas. So When I see something like this in Nigeria, I want to put my full weight behind it and to ensure we promote it so that government would take it as its own project.”

Lekan Akinjide, AfriOne’s director of strategy and government relations, said the company’s products, which include laptops, tablets and mobile phones, can compete favourably with top players in the industry, especially with the added advantage of an indigenous end-to-end supply chain.

“It is the same quality, it is the same benchmark, it is the same testing that our products go through but with accessible servicing and repairs.”

We wish AfriOne the best in Nigeria and Africa as the company is already to create a viable economic cluster that will include suppliers of the different components it needs.

Afrifone is a tech company that has great potentials in the Nigerian and African tech market.

Poll on Best N-Power Device in Terms of User Friendliness

N-Power conducted a poll on the best tablet device in terms of user friendliness more than a year ago.

The 2016 first batch of the job initiative empowerment programme were asked to rate the device they collected.

The poll is being conducted on all N-power social media platforms: twitter(@npower_ng); Facebook (@npowerng) etc.

The poll, which has finally turned to a debate among beneficiaries, is titled, “Real quick poll” where N-power asked:

“Which N-Power Device would you rate as best?
Which N-Power Device would you rate least?
Type your answers like this
1. Best: Device Name and Why.
2. Least: Device Name and Why.”

The poll, “Best Npower Device in terms of user-friendliness” is based on the following following N-power devices:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6,
  • Tecno Droid,
  • Speedstar Tab,
  • RLG Tab,
  • Zinox Zpad iPad,
  • AfriOne 2-in-1 Transformer have been rated according to the experiences of the final consumers.

This means that, a volunteer who selected and collected Samsung Tab E may not necessarily have access to all other gadgets for him to judge which is the best in terms of user friendliness.

But since we started covering Npower and its activities, and based on our previous analysis of N-power devices, one tablet gadget can’t have all the features.

For instance, we discovered that, AfriOne Transformer is the best in terms of user friendliness for the fact that it is convertible: as an iPad and Laptop, making it a top choice for those who want 2-in-1 tablet. However, it’s highly fragile.

On the other hand, Samsung Tab E, according to tech experts, is the best in terms of network and picture quality.

While Tecno Droid is a top choice in terms of ruggedness and battery strength too, and for the fact that tecno tech isn’t a stranger in Nigerian tech market, making its accessories easily accessible.

They all have their strength and weaknesses, which we’ve pointed out in our previous posts.

What does this poll mean for Npower 2017 second batch beneficiaries?

It is a time for you to carefully pay special attention to the strength and weaknesses of the tablet devices and choose the one you’ll be able to cope with.

N-Power Device Problems & How to Fix Them

In this post, we’ll discuss some of the NPower Device problems and how to fix them yourself with less stress. One of these issues are if N-Power volunteer preloaded content is not functioning.

Your NPower device tablet could only be described as a machine in your hand. But there are some minor problems that could hinder user experience.

If you’re looking for how to get back your N-Power Apps, we already did a post on this issue, you can check it out.

Some of these problems do not require special skills to fix them; they’re issues you can fix by yourself by performing a very simple task.

Here are some of the NPower Device Problems beneficiaries told us they encountered since they collected their device.

NPower Device problems and solutions

  1. Accumulated cache data
  2. Over heating problem
  3. Megabyte (Data) management
  4. Screen protection
  5. Power consumption
  6. Difficulty in using N-power 750 free data
  7. Difficulty in getting the N250 monthly call card
  8. Storage problem
  9. Screen shot
  10. Virus problem

Let’s take the above NPower device problem one after the other and how to fix them by yourself.

1) Accumulated cache data on NPower Device Tablet

One of the NPower Device problems is cache issue. Your NPower device has been pre-loaded with enough apps to make you enjoy it.

Definitely you’ve also downloaded some apps from store by yourself. Fine, but do you know that the installed apps on a tablet device have feature to store cache?

Accumulated cache on your tablet device could be one of the reasons your tablet is slow. The cached data is one type of data storage. The cached data can consume the memory of your available storage on the device.

Better still…

Did you noticed that a new app was working fine on your device but later it begins to lag and works very slow?

Accumulated cache could be one of the reasons.

But first…

What is cached data?

“Cache is a collection of web pages including the text, images, and media. This stored cache data helps in improving the user experience. With the help of cached data, your web browser opens web page quickly on your next visit to the particular web page.”quora.com

How to fix cache issue on your NPower Device Tablet

To clear cache on your device , use the pre-loaded cache clearing app “ACCELERATE”

Look for accelerate and tap on it, it would automatically clean stored cache on your device. This enables your task to be faster on the device.

If you’re not satisfied with this, you can do it manually, but make sure you know where to click before you embark on manual cleaning of cache because any mistake could make your device to start misbehaving

You can also install Clean Master from Google Play Store, and clear cache from time to time.

2) Overheating problem on NPower Device Tablet

There are several reasons your NPower device may be overheating:

First, if the power supply (voltage) is very high.

Depending on your device, you may be alerted to remove the charger from the socket. In a situation whereby you’re not alerted, try to check your device at least 20 minutes after connecting the charger to the socket.

Solution

If you discovered unusual heat around the battery area, pleas remove the charger from the main socket.

If you constantly charge your device with sub-standard generating set, you may also experience issue of over-heating. Disconnect it from socket

Second, if you run multiple apps underground, your device may be experiencing problem of over-heating.

For instance…

Facebook App could be running under if you don’t log out from it before exiting the app.

It means next time you switch on data, the app will automatically be running. In this situation you’re putting pressure on your battery causing the device to overheat.

Solution to the problem of device overheating

Log out from any app you’re not using. Don’t just switch off your data connection, make sure you log out from all apps before switching off your data so that they don’t automatically start running next you’re connected to the internet.

3) NPower device tablet Megabyte (Data) Management

Another NPower device problem is: If your device comes with FREE 750MB per month. It is automatically renewed from the beginning of every month. The essence of the FREE data is to enable you mark attendance and use other things connected with N-power right on your device.

While 750MB may be too small for some data consumers, it’s enough for a whole month if it’s used exclusively for what N-power says it should be used for.

But how possible is it to just use such a machine for only N-power activities?

Please read T&C of the gadget.

Some NPower volunteers are already using their device for their online businesses, thanks to N-power.

In this regard, do you know that you could consume the 750MB within a week?

Yes is even possible to finish the data within a day if you’re a movie lover who stream live on YouTube or movie download enthusiast.

How to manage your NPower 750MB Monthly FREE DATA

  • Turn off internet connection when you’re busy attending to other things
  • Turn off the internet connection when you’re not doing anything online.
  • You can set data warning in order to regulate the way you consume data per day or weekly.

WhatsApp Data Save Mode

Limit the amount of data you use on the messaging App, WhatsApp. You can simply do this by turning off media auto download on your WhatsApp.

Go to settings, select data usage, and under media auto-download (when using mobile data), select no media.

Set Google Play Store Update

  • Set your Google Play Store App update to Wi-Fi only or Do not auto-update apps.
  • Click on Google Play Store App
  • By your left hand side, swipe to the right if the options aren’t showing.
  • Click on settings to see other options like: Notifications, Auto-update apps etc
  • Click on Auto-update app and select either Do Not Auto-Update Apps or select auto-update apps over WI-FI only.

Caution

If you selected Auto-update apps at any time means that any time you switch on your data the app would automatically be searching for what to update and begins download or updating without your authorization. Don’t pick this option if you want your data to last.

Turn auto mode on Facebook

Turn off video auto play under settings in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media app you installed on your device.

Tethering and portable hotspot

If you are the type that shares your Npower data with your PC, please password it so that others within range do not tap your Wi-Fi. If you password your connection anyone who sees your hotspot won’t be able to connect to your connection unless you shared your password with him.

I don’t even see any reason why one must tether with laptop because the device itself is a machine that can perform virtually all the tasks you want to perform on your laptop.

Use Data saving apps

Apps consume data more than others. For instance, Opera mini consume less data than chrome

Use Facebook Lite instead of the standard Facebook App. The standard app is heavier and consume more data.

4) Screen protection of NPower device tablet

Another NPower device problem is the issue of screen. The screen of your device needs proper maintenance. Don’t use hard cloth to clean the surface, it may lead to scratch on the screen. The price of screen of some of the N-power devices is costlier than many of the new android devices in the market, particularly Samsung Tab E.

Better still you can buy screen protector to safeguard it.

5) Issue of Power Consumption on NPower device tablet

Your device battery is meant to last for 5hours, right? But you noticed that within two to three hours the battery begins to give you red. Close all unused apps. And when you’re not on the device, set it to save mode.

How to activate SAVE MODE on your device

Your device comes with Power Efficiency App, this enables you to preserve power when you’re not on it.

Let assume your power would normally lasts for 14H02min.

  • Tap on the app, activate the advanced power saving mode
  • Click on confirm
  • It brings up a very cool screen resolution mode and you’d see that the power would now last for 18H57min
  • Click on confirm

To deactivate this, there’s an arrow by the top right hand corner of your screen, click on it to gain access to the full feature of your device.

Better still, you can reduce the screen resolution of your device to save power. Brightness of your screen consumes more battery, reduce it.

6) Difficulty in using N-power 750 free data

Each of the N-power tablet devices comes with one year free internet access.

It is designed to enable each beneficiary to get abreast with the workings of the internet and make use of it in upgrading their skills and job empowerment.

To check your N-power data balance, dial *559*24#

But I’ve seen people who have difficulties in using the free data. Some can use the data, while they’re unable to use the free N250 airtime. If you’re one of them, simply send complaint to N-power device support e-mail: devicesupport@npvn.ng.

Sample of complaint:

Name:

Your N-power MTN Phone Number:

NPower Device Problem No. 7: Difficulty in getting the N250 monthly call card

Each of the lines has been paid for already by the Federal Government of Nigeria, thus each volunteers will be given an airtime worth of N250.00 monthly. It will not be roll over to the next month if it’s not used by the volunteer for that month.

You can as well load your own personal airtime but it will be at your own cost. To check your account balance for airtime check, dial *558#

In a situation whereby you can’t use your free airtime or you’re not given, just as described above, send complaint to N-powe device support email devicesupport@npvn.ng

Sample of complaint:
