7 Easy Steps To Apply For Mortgage Loans Under The National Social Housing Programme

Nigeria’s government has finally shown its interest to massively invest in housing. It’s doing this by building 300,000 houses for interested Nigerians across the country under its programme called National Social Housing Programme (NSHP)

The new announcement by the NSHP means you can own a house at an interest-free loan beginning from N2, 000, 000.

In the later part of this post, we’ll show you how to fill the FG housing expression of interest form for you to benefit from the scheme.

But first…

What is NSHP Homes?

NSHP means National Social Housing Programme which is the Mass Construction of Houses for all categories of Nigerians in the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory.

What does this mean?

It means Nigeria’s government is adopting a housing system popular in some of the advanced countries in Europe.

With this, it means Nigerians can own their house built for them by the FG while they pay back in a WIN-WIN situation.

Already, 20 state governments have shown interest to join the Economic Sustainability plan, according to an update by Mr. Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President in the Office of the Vice President.

Where are the houses built?

This is how the programme works: State government donate land in a situation whereby the FG needs more pieces of land for the project.

We gathered that the first set of construction sites are in the following states:

  • Ogun,
  • Osun,
  • Enugu,
  • Bauchi,
  • Delta,
  • Kebbi,
  • Nasarawa,
  • Plateau
  • FCT

Other states that will be joining soon:

  • Abia,
  • Anambra,
  • Ebonyi,
  • Imo,
  • Cross River,
  • Sokoto,
  • Kaduna,
  • Zamfara,
  • Katsina,
  • Borno
  • Yobe

Cost of NSHP Homes

The houses are available under three plans:

  • 1 bedroom (2-room) cost ₦2,000,000
  • 2 bedroom house goes for ₦2,750,000
  • 3 bedroom house goes for ₦3,500,000

Who can apply?

  • Individuals
  • Cooperative groups
  • Partnership (developers)

The requirement for NSHP homes?

  • You must be a Nigerian citizen
  • You must be above 18 years of age
  • You must have a valid national identity card.
  • You must be ready to submit your personal data
  • You must have a reliable income

What’s the mode of financing?

Financing will be arranged through the designation of a Home’s Warehousing Agent that will purchase the completed homes from the developers. Individual buyers will then purchase homes from these Home’ Warehousing Agents.

When will the registration begin?

Registration is yet to commence but you can log on to http://nshp.gov.ng to view the steps required to own your home. Please spread the news, NSHP_NG said in a tweet during its official launch in Abuja on December 14, 2020

Mode of payment:

Mortgage loans at low-interest rates will be made available, “The form of financial assistance that will be made available to Nigerians include mortgage loans at low interest rates,” an official said.

Below is how to apply for NHF Mortgage Loan

  1. Identify the property to purchase
  2. Get an offer of allocation from the seller. The house must have a title document
  3. Provide your tax clearance certificate and six-month payslip
  4. Pay equity contribution
  5. Approach a Primary Mortgage Bank to load your application which will be sent to the Federal Mortage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN)
  6. FMBN will appraise and approve the application and send offer letter to you via the Primary Mortgage bank
  7. You will inform when your loan has been approved.

Final thought:

The Mass Housing Strategy of the Nigeria Economic Sustainability Plan is a brilliant idea. And this should be one of the best ideas of the APC-led government after the N-Power programme.

However, we’ve seen brilliant template like this programme in the past which was hijacked by the politicians or truncated along the way. We hope that the NSHP would not be one of them.

So, what are you waiting for, head straight to the official portal of NSHP to submit your expression of interest form is you reside in the first batch of states contained in this post.

  1. Hmmm!!!
The federal government of Nigeria is rulling this country like TUWO.

    Hmmm

We are educated, this is just a system of a campaign ahead of 2023 election. Is it not the same government that’s unable to stop the killing of Nigerians?

Now, they are telling us about building houses for Nigerians. Do you mean that you want us to forget our Muslim brothers and sisters and others who were killed with no action from you?

We know what we are doing please change the system this is rubbish and nonsensical idea

we are Nigerian citizen by birth.
