While the rate of unemployment among Nigerian youths is rapidly growing at a very disturbing pace, 19-year-old Osaruguemwen Asemota Precious doesn’t want to join the growing number. One of the entrepreneurial actions she took was to establish a makeup business.

From the financial support she got from her Dad, she started making savings from her monthly allowances.

The Story Behind Her Makeup Business

Precious’ makeup business was borne out of her passion to making people look good. She started makeup in April 2018, and less that’s how she turned her passion into a business.

“I have always liked making people look good. The smile on their faces after their makeup session and they see themselves in the mirror is usually priceless,” she told The Punch in an interview.

Asemota, whose services include special bridal makeovers, owambe guest makeup, and makeup for professional photoshoots, said she realised more than 99% of her customers are excited about her services and decided to make money out of it.

Should Age Be a Barrier In Starting a Business?

Osaruguemwen Asemota said NO, saying she never saw age as a barrier when she set up JunebyTife, “I simply wanted to have something of my own.”

And on what JunebyTife is doing differently, the young and beauty entrepreneur said she redefined the makeup business by creating a timeless and flawless look.

How She Leveraged On The Power of Social Media

While hundreds of her pairs out there use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok Precious leverage social media to promote her makeup business. According to her, the result has been overwhelming.

“Social media is where the majority of my customers come from,” she also said she receives referrals through happy existing customers.

Another step she took was to register her business on Google My Business, a tool specifically designed by tech giant Google for businesses to be found by prospective customers online.

Challenges:

The big and striving businesses today once had challenges, their doggedness and determination not to give it up to such took them to where they are, JunebyTife isn’t an exception.

According to the KWASU undergraduate, the fact that her business is seasonal is one of the challenges she has been battling with.

“Not getting clients over a long period of time is a challenge. Also, some customers want quality but will not pay for such.”

Unavailability of enough capital is another challenge she had to battle, but she confessed that the makeup business is profitable.

Precious, whose goal is to build a formidable brand, dreams of owning a bigger makeup studio “that caters for all things that involve beauty” soonest.

Thanking her support system, the Asemota whose smiles are a beauty to behold appreciated the financial, moral, and spiritual support she’s been getting from her family and friends and existing customers who continue to make referrals.
