Osun State has begun the digitized issuance of state and local government certificates of origin.
The announcement was made by Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, in an update about what his administration is doing in the area of Ease of Doing Business.
With this development, it is now easy for Osun State indigenes to apply and obtain any of the two means of identification from any part of the world.
The new portal also includes the option for applicants to convert their old certificate of origin to a digitized format.
Application fee
- Fresh application: N3,000
- To convert old certificate to a digital format: N1,500
Applying for a fresh certificate
- Go to the official portal at: stateoforigin.osunstate.gov.ng to create an account
- Details you need to get get a account are: last name (Surname), first and middle name, date of birth, phone number, active email address, and create password
- Login and head straight to the dashboard to select the option that is applicable to you
- If it’s your first time of applying for LGA/state of origin certificate, select request certificate
- Fill in your details, including father’s and mother’s full name, compound and native address, upload your passport, fill in your NIN
- Choose application type
- Clicking on “submit form” will take you to the online payment page
- The two payment options are: IPN which can be used to make payment at designated banks and through Paystack checkout page.
- You’ll receive email for a successful application after verification.
- The download link will be made available on your “view application” page
How to convert old certificate to automated electronic certificate
- On the dashboard, select “convert certificate”
- Choose application type
- Upload your old certificate, which must be in pdf format.
- Submit form to proceed to the payment page.
- Complete payment and download your certificate when verification is completed by the government.
- You will receive an update.

How will the LGA generates revenue?
As it is known that issuance of LG certificate of origin is under the purview of the local government areas and one of the means of revenue generation, the state government says the new initiative is in collaboration with the Osun State Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) “aimed at ensuring seamless processing of certificate of origin for citizens of Osun from anywhere in the world.”
In a press release signed by the state’s commissioner for information and public enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the initiative “aligns with the Governor’s vision of ensuring improved and efficient service delivery in all sectors and arms of the state.”
This initiative also marks the end physical application and issuance of state of origin certificate as well as local government certificate of origin.
It will also completely remove the stress, bribery, and delay associated with physical application process.
