Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2025 was N5.15 Trillion, with the South-West accounting for the 44.7% of the total sum.
While South-west geopolitical zone generated N2.30 Trillion, followed by the South-south zone, generating N972.86 Billion from IGR while South-east occupies the third position with N595.04 Billion.
North-west zone’s IGR stood at N401.80 Billion in the year under review while North-central and North-east generated N312.91 Billion and N211.04 Billion respectively.
The FCT generated N356.34 Billion.
The six geopolitical zones and what they generated as IGR are:
1. South-west: N2.30trn (44.7%)
2. South-south: N972.86bn (18.9%)
3. South-east: N595.04bn (11.6%)
4. North-west: N401.80bn (7.8%)
5. North-central: N312.91bn (6.1%)
6. North-east: N211.04bn (4.1%)
What does this mean?
South-west zone generated more IGR than any other four geopolitical zones combined.
Similarly, South-east generated more IGR than North-central and North-east geopolitical zones combined. There are five states in the South-east while there are 12 states in North-central and North-east, the FCT not included.
In an analysis of what each states generated as IGR, data show that Lagos state generated N1.77 Trillion among the six states in the south-west.
