Favour Igiebor, the woman who was captured in a viral video clip tearing up her husband’s international passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, has justified her action by saying, “I suffered with my husband” and “it is nobody’s business” for doing what she did.
In a video clip on her social media page, she said, “I’m the lady that had issue with the husband before we came to Nigeria.
“This issue has been going on for a very long time, but I was dancing to the tune till I arrived in my motherland, Nigeria till I did what I did.”
Her video had gone viral on Saturday when she tore up her husband’s international passport shortly after they arrived from abroad.
After her action, she could be heard saying, “Is it your passport?”
Mrs Igiebor later told her motionless cum, perplexed husband, “If you want to sleep there, sleep there, this is Nigeria, this is where you will be”.
Her act has been condemned and described by many as vandalism of government property. Many people have also described her as a “bitter woman” calling her legal action against her.
But in another video she said, “I’m not a mad woman who will just come and act like that. I have my reasons. I have gone through so many things.
“It got to an unbearable stage that’s why I acted. I don’t want him to through a lot of stress that is why I did it in Nigeria.”
She berated gossip bloggers, saying no one tried to hear her side of the story, asking, “What if I had done this thing in Europe where are coming from?
She disclosed that she is unperturbed about what people are saying and writing about her actions, “If you don’t know what is happening, don’t comment on what you don’t know.
She justified her action stating that her husband refused to speak when family issues came up.
Nigeria Immigration Launches Probe
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has disclosed that it would investigate the action of a woman to determine if her action violated a section of the Immigration Act.
The Public Relation Officer of NIS Mr. Keneth Udo, a Deputy Controller of Immigration, stated in a statement that, “The individual has been identified and invited for further investigation.
“If the allegations are substantiated, her actions would have constituted a breach of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), with corresponding penalties outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act.”
Udpo promised that NIS would uphold the provisions of the Immigration Act by preserving the dignity and integrity of the nation’s legal instruments.
She has been invited for questioning.
A skit
Meanwhile, the couple has revealed that their action was a skit. In a twist of event, Mr. Igiebor, Favour’s husband, in a video shared on the family’s Instagram page, disclosed that what his wife tore wasn’t a passport, “we were doing a skit.
“This is somebody’s story of what happened that we are passing to the world. But I didn’t even know it would go viral.”
He pleaded to Nigerians to forgive them, stating that he couldn’t defy the Nigerian law by tearing up a symbol of the country, “We are sorry, we cannot defile the law of Nigeria, we are full bonafide Nigerian, we cannot go against the law by destroying the passport of Nigeria, it is not possible.”
Their new disclosure marks the end of the investigation that was launched by the immigration service.
