Electricity customers across Nigeria are not on the same feeder which is why they are on different classifications of service bands (A, B, C, D, and D).

Customers on the Band A pay more. The latest tariff hike shows that Band A customers will be paying N225 kilowatt per hour as against the old price, which was N66/KwH. The price increase doesn’t affect other service bands.

Customers on the category Band A can be found in nearly all the states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

How Band A Feeder Works

According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), “out of the over 3,000 DisCos’ feeders, 875 of them are in Band A”, but they have been reduced to 480 feeders, which qualify as Band A and are currently meeting the 20-hour average service. If you enjoy at least 20 hours of electricity in your location, it means you’re on Band A feeder.

“Only about 15% of the customer population are connected to these Band A feeders,” NERC Vice Chairman Musliu Oseni said in a tweet.
