Old National Identity Card nin number

List of 203 NIN Enrolment Agents in Nigeria Approved By NIMC

A few days ago, the Federal Government approved 203 National Identity Number agents in Nigeria to assist the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrol Nigerians for them to get their National ID card.

As an agent, your role is to capture the data of Nigerians and forward it to NIMC headquarters, the guide is available at: https://infomediang.com/become-nimc-agent

In a communique signed by NIMC Head of Corporate Communications Mr Kayode Adegoke, the agents include 173 agents and 30 state government institutions.

The publication of the approved NIN enrolment agents followed a directive by the National Communications Commission to telecom operators that phone line not linked to NIN should be blocked.

Major telecommunication operators such as MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9Mobile also released codes for their customers to link NIN to phone line.

What is NIMC?

In 2010, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) was created by the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007.

NIMC was mandated to register and allocate to every Nigerian a unique National Identification Number (NIN).

Some of the purposes of the NIN to create a national identity database and eradicate identity fraud and for security measure.

Upon registration, individuals will be provided with a NIN and eventually a national ID card, even though the ID could take more than three years to arrive.

By 2018, the NIMC promised Nigerians that by the end of 2019, 70 million Nigerians would have received electronic National Identity Cards (e-ID), but they failed.

The current security challenges prompted the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directing telecommunications operators like MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9Mobile and others to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers in two weeks.

It’s believed that if an individual’s NIN data is linked to their telecom line, it could help in tracking kidnappers, criminals who use SIM card to make a call.

So if you’ve enrolled for National Identity Management System but you can’t find your NIN Slip at the moment, don’t worry, here is how to easily check it on your mobile phone with just N20.

Also, all registered persons can retrieve their NIN by dialling *346# on their registered phone number for all the major networks.

Why Private sectors were licensed

Capturing of Nigerians’ details into the National Identity Database is a huge task considering the population of Nigeria (more than 200 million people).

As such, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. lsa All Ibrahim (Pantami), approved the licensing of 173 private sector Agents and 30 State Governments/Public Sector Institutions (making 203 in all) to conduct enrolment of Nigerians and legal residents into the National Identity Database (NIDB) on behalf of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

How the NIN enrolment agents were shortlisted and selected

There was an advertisement in 2019 for interested firms and institutions to submit Expression of Interest.

Subsequently, the licensed agents were approved after successfully fulfilling all the conditions in the advert as a first step towards the take-off the National Digital Identity Ecosystem project.

There are also accredited registration locations in Canada, Germany, Togo, UK, Australia, and other countries around the world for Nigerians in the diaspora.
