Does Borno State have crude oil?
YES, Crude oil was discovered in Borno state in 2016. There have been drilling activities in the state as far back as the 90s until it was suspended in 1995 to enable the re-evaluation of exploration activities in the entire frontier basins.
At the time oil was first discovered in the Chad Basin of Borno State, it wasn’t a commercial quantity.
By December 16, 2016, a senior official at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources officially disclosed that crude oil has been discovered in vast quantities in Borno state.
The discovery of crude oil in Borno state means that the state will join Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Rivers, and Delta as a member of the League of oil-producing states in Nigeria.
